I remember these precious moments so well. My son was born with several severe food allergies and one of the allergies was to milk. Unfortunately, his mother and I didn't discover this until about a year and change after his birth. And, even though he was breast fed by his mother, we also gave him formula which unknowingly he was allergic to. So every single night for about a year and half, my son would scratch himself awake because of his allergy to formula...EVERY NIGHT! It got so bad that his mother and I had to divide the night into shifts. If he woke up before 1 am, daddy would get up and change him. If he woke after 1 am, mom would get him. As you might imagine after months of doing this, some nights were pure torture getting up. Yet, we did it because we loved him so much...but it was still rough. The other thing that his mother and I did was we didn't talk to our son at all when we got up. We wanted him to go BACK to sleep as quickly as possible so we didn't want to engage him in ANY baby talk! Well, one night over the baby monitor, I heard him crying, So I reluctantly got up to go change him. As I walked into his room, he's awake and already standing up in his crib. So, as I normally did and without saying anything to him, I walked over and picked him up out of his crib. As I'm carrying him over to the changing table, out of nowhere my son just plants the biggest little kiss on my cheek! 🥰🥰🥰My son had never EVER done that before, but his little spontaneous peck made me feel so good inside!! This was his little way of thanking me for getting up night after night after night! From that moment on, whenever I heard him crying, I jumped out of bed even though it was still tough! And I was willing to do it for as long as he needed me to! Cherish these precious moments, these little spontaneous kisses...they mean so much and go so fast!❤
