Hong Kong exchange halts derivatives trading after technical hitch

Hong Kong's exchange operator had to suspend trading of derivatives at 2pm on Sept 5 because of connectivity issues. Transactions of futures contracts shrank by 70 per cent in morning trading with a sharp drop-off from around 9.30am, local time. The Hang Seng Volatility index, which tracked the expected volatility of the benchmark stock index based on options trading, was completely flat.

To all the Western hedge funds who shorted HK via futures, Good Luck! This is a warning for you. HK can play punk too! All it takes is something like this to totally mess up your entries and exits. A little glitch here and there to throw a monkey wrench into the works.
