This is why i like yahama. They understand motorcycling very well by putting smooth torque in cornering

Thank you for this. Some ppl are confused about what cp actually does and or means 😉

Smooth engine, that loves to spin freely into high RPM with very little mechanical noise or vibration ...and an addictive exhaust note that sounds good at idle but gets better at high RPM. 2009 -2014 is roomy for a sports bike . 2015 onward gets more electronic rider aids, looses weight ....but has a bit less leg room (only a problem for us old blokes)
I find myself more relaxed and calm riding a cross plane R1 .

My brother had a 72 Norton. During a regular rebuild I was amazed that both pistons went up and down at the same time !

need more of these engines. Alone the sound!

I would change the first paragraph, the up and down piston movement is not driven by the rotation of the crankshaft, just the opposite the crankshaft rotates driven by de up and down movement of the pistons! this is a yamaha video!

i'm just curious but how this uneven firing of the piston fix the torque problem? with some pistons firing at 270° from one another, some at 180° and some at 90°. so if i use a clock to illustratre the firing order it goes 12 to 6 to 3 to 9
Edit: nevermind this fix inertial torque which as nothing to do with firing order.

Engines like these sound like american v8 at low rpms, which is quite cool for an inline 4

Second order shaking forces exchanged for primary rotating couple and uneven firing.

*and gives probably the most iconic motorcycle exhaust note.
