I will die, saying the 80's was was the BEST decade of ALL! So glad I lived it! I loved this song and video, when it was released....but it is so much more important today, than it ever was. The 80's, was trying to inform us of the future....but we didn't listen....look at us today. A disgrace.

Boy George should re-release this forgotten and under rated tune. All these years on from release, he was ahead of his time. NO MORE WAR PLEASE.

I know it is superficial and shallow what I’m going to say, but can we take 5secs of appreciation how gorgeous Boy George looks in this video.

The War song…released in 1984 when I was a high school student who loved western music and Culture Club was(is) my favorite one…used to listen to the radio, watch the MTV as well.
It's been almost 40 years since then and the song come to my head in the situation that is actually on going…pray for peace.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Sadly, this gorgeous, brilliant song remains painfully relevant today.

I saw Culture Club in concert 2 years ago at the Santa Barbara Bowl in California. Beautiful outdoor venue, holds 4500, and it sold out. And I must say, I was blown away by how good they were. There were actually about a dozen or so musicians on stage, brass, percussion, backup singers, the works, and boy they were tight, professional and having fun. They did some awesome jazz as well as their hits, of course. And Boy George was an absolute delight, a real class act, very personable (and funny) when talking with the audience between songs. I was really impressed, and have a whole new respect for how professional and talented this man is.
And now that I think of it, they did not play "War"

The background vocal @1:58 may sound familiar. It's Clare Tory, who is the vocalist in Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky."

This was the first 7' I ever brought! I was only 12. I still have it. These lyrics and the sentiment have stayed with me for life!
WAR WAR IS STUPID!
And people are stupid
And love means nothing
In some strange quarters

30 years later and still one of the most powerful positive songs for humanity .
War is stupid and frankly, some people are indeed stupid.

This video premiered on itv in the 80s at about quarter past 3 one weekday afternoon, which was unprecedented back then. Such was the popularity of culture club. I was a confused 15 year old boy at a holiday camp and made my excuses to go back to the caravan to watch it. After seeing the video, i walked back to the beach to my family on a high! Loved it then and still holds happy memorys today.

Was a much anticipated song/video in 1984 when Culture Club was one of the biggest bands in the world. Actually, strikes me as smarter and catchier in terms of concept and execution than it did at the time. Especially the music arrangement and that final scene with Boy George leading an "army" of dead children.

The reason this song was given flack aside from after two years of constantly being in the press thus an inevitable backlash was due was becuz it was a song about WAR...a serious topic and unlike other songs of war, it was poppy and the lyrics brutally honest in their simplicity. I think it's a really underrated song. And the lyrics in the verses are much deeper and thoughtful than the seemingly blithe chorus. Really good catchy song. Love the video. Soo 1984
