Notes - The maritime heritage of the Cayman Islands is rich and honoured past.
As a typical example, the KIRK B a schooner was built by R.B. Leitch and owned by R.B. Kirk Connell & Bros.
It was built in Cayman Brac, Launched in 1929 and registered in 1931 by registrar Tm.McField.
The KIRK B transported freight from Jamaica to Cayman Brac.
During World War II it was used by the Jamaican Government to transport flour from Santiago, Cuba to Jamaica.
She was also used for turtle catching and fishing.
In a restored traditional Caymanian house in the Brac known as the Walton’s Mango Manor, a three feet long replica of the schooner accurate in every detail down to the tiny turtle nets and cloth masts rest atop an antique hardwood credenza. The replica was handcrafted by Mr. Ernest Walton.
