The demand part is also a bit odd, I don’t see that many people being able to afford a new car let alone an EV to drive the demand that high.

Peter Zeihan has been warning of this for years. Just because people really wish for something to happen doesn’t mean it will. 👍

Hybrid. Toyota's approach in my opinion is the best approach for the next 10-15 years. There are lots of countries whose electrical grids cannot support the rate at which EVs are being pushed not to mention the expense.

I’m an old school naturally aspirated, manual transmission kind of dinosaur. Just don’t see an EV in my future. Though I will concede that hybrids seem to make sense.

I'll be buying gasoline vehicles as long as they are available. The most responsible approach for the industry is to offer a mix of vehicle types so shortages in the industry and grid restrictions have minimal effect on the market.

I knew it since the beginning that this obligatory EV only market will fail.

So Toyota was right about building more hybrids rather than full EVs.

I do no see a BEV in my future. We travel 300 miles in each direction on the weekends up north to go skiing, Bev's are not of interest to me. Hybrid vehicles seem to
be the best of both worlds so far.

My wife drives Tesla Model Y and I love the concept of EV, but it won't work for me. During winter season, I drive up to 2, 000 miles R/T to go snow skiing almost every weekend. Driving in the cold weather and stopping up to 8 or 9 times for 20 to 25 minutes each way just won't work for me compared to driving my good ol' gasoline engine car. I will patiently wait until the EV technology advances.

but hey, one thing we have lots of is OIL, so let's just use that, sounds like a hell of an idea.

What makes me angry are the shareholders are mad at Toyota but they are just ignorant to the world and think EV = stock go moon. Toyota is doing it right.

Not just that. Someone I know works for a power company. It is estimated there will be blackout in places other than California. They have to build many more power plants. In addition what you pay for power will increase significantly.

I like Toyota's strategy! They didn't jump in with both feet for EVs! They are producing more efficient engines and offer a Hybrid option for every new vehicle. Hybrid and PHEV make the most sense for today! EV Charging infrastructure and battery components are far behind vehicle technology as it is today. If everyone in the US goes EV, your grid would absolutely crumble. When I finished my basement 2 years ago, I saw the writing on the wall and ran a pony panel into my garage to prepare me for PHEV/EV future! It cost me about $300, which would have been MUCH more painful once I had drywall up!

Next few years will be real interesting for sure. I'm an old guy whose first car had a flathead v8 and 3 on the tree. I've watched carburetors, distributors w/points and condensers, single coils to 1 per cylinder, etc., etc., disappear, and I enjoyed all my time working with it all. Currently have a 2004 GTO w/6spd and a 2016 Chevy Spark EV both enjoyable vehicles. I do hope the many new battery chemistries alleviate potential shortages along with improvements in ICE and EV components and we'll see how/where hydrogen fits in as well. Strap in as it's sure to be a roller coaster ride for sure.

My current vehicle is 12 years old, well maintained, and fairly low mileage thanks to working at home through the pandemic so I expect to keep it for another 5 or 6 years and see what the market looks like then. I'll be looking for quality, reliablity and economy in a basic transportation appliance. I don't need anything fancy for a trip to the grocery store.

This is why we need mild hybrid on EVERY vehicle. Spread the battery resources across all vehicles.

Tesla Model 2 hatchback with 100 mile range for $15k (as opposed to Musk’s touted $25k) would be an amazing and cheap (!) alternative for city driving.
80% of us drive less than 50 miles a day anyways.
