GIOVANNI LORENZO GREGORI CONCERTO GROSSO IN C MAJOR, OP. 2, NO. 1 / You might not have heard of Giovanni Lorenzo Gregori, but he was important in the history of Baroque music, especially regarding the Italian Baroque concerto grosso. Gregori’s 1698 collection of “concerti grossi” was the first publication to use the word “grossi” in the title, though in this case it just meant that the violins could be doubled in tutti passages and not that there were truly separate concertino and ripieno groups. Nevertheless, Giovanni Lorenzo Gregori’s “concerti grossi” can be exciting and interesting Baroque music! Enjoy this live performance of Gregori’s Op. 2, No. 1 concerto grosso by La forza delle stelle | Baroque Orchestra!
