In this study, authors evaluate national outcomes of open and endovascular aortic repair for descending thoracic aortic aneurysms (DTAAs) and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs). Through a study of 3,522 adults undergoing planned DTAA repair or TAAA repair, authors conclude that endovascular repair was the preferred approach for treating DTAA - although open surgical repair is considered reasonable in patients with limited comorbidities and prolonged life expectancy - and open surgical repair was the more commonly used approach for patients undergoing TAAA interventions.
