✅ How To Add A Router to Verizon 5G Home Internet Gateway - ASK-NCQ1338 And Asus Aimesh RT-AC88U

Need to configure a router to work with Verizon 5G Home Internet? Here's how I setup the ASK-NCQ1338 gateway to work with my Asus Aimesh system (main router is a RT-AC88U). The newer ARC-XCI55AX cube gateway is very similar to setup but the interface is different. I discuss how to setup DHCP server, DMZ, IP passthrough, static IP address, firewall, etc to get it to work together the most robust way.

Be sure to see my other Verizon and T-Mobile Home Internet Videos:

OMG - this video is GOLD. I got Verizon Home LTE about 6-8 weeks ago and immediately connected it to my existing network using passthrough. It worked okay, but I had off and on connectivity issues and even worse - DNS issues. While browsing on my Apple computers, I would get frequent DNS (sites not loading or not found) issues. It was driving me crazy. After following Nater Tater's advice, my internet is now working great. Thank you! BTW - I have an "ASK" device. So the UI was different. But I eventually figured out how to turn off DHCP after reseting the router from passthrough mode.

Just wanted to say that your are an absolute goat for this. Only video I found with valid information on the pass through issue as well as 3rd party router speed issue. My RT-AX82U now works seamlessly for heavy task like gaming and streaming with no hitches. Verizon should make this public knowledge but Im happy you did. Cheers🤙🏽

thanks a bunch for the video NT. I had recently got an asus router and was experiencing disconnects every so often along with slower speeds. I didn't expect both of my issues to be addressed in this video but I'm so happy they were. keep up the amazing work :)

So much goodness came out when I turned off the DHCP on the Verizon router I was going so fast felt like a flying carpet!! Thank you for the tip the speed really increased when I did this.

I would like to add that I noticed with the ASKEY Verizon cube that it does get very warm with the WIFI on, but also the cellular radio adds to that heat. I noticed when these boxes get a bit too warm it will cause them to reset or glitch out. This is why I want to well basically do what you did and have a secondary router handle all of the processing. I will follow some of the steps from your video, thank you for posting this for people with the ASKEY verizon cube.

I'm using Verizon Home Internet with an ASUS AI Mesh system. Something I did was a ping test to determine optimal MTU Size. Anything over 1428 and my packets were fragmented, so I set my WAN MTU setting (Merlin Software) of my ASUS to 1428 and things are running very quick & smooth

Thanks for the video! Worked perfectly to transition to the Verizon box from our other modem. Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for this video! You had no idea lol I almost return the V gateway :P It works great now, thanks a lot for details step by step. I have the tp link mesh system, the speed is not as good as before (with spectrum), but def better than using V gateway as router. I wish I can show you the speed test screenshots. Anyway, thank you again :) and Happy New Year!

HI Nate, THANK YOU! I was having the same speed issues using IP passthrough on an Inseego 5g M3200. With your help, I've managed to hook the M3200 to my router, and now getting fast 5g speeds. Thanks again!

Hi Nater, Thanks for the great info, I'm trying to configure my verizon internet to get speeds that its advertised to. Currently its running around 25-35 mbps and its such a bummer.
If I utilize the setting you mentioned (disabling DHCP), along with my own router, would I be able to achieve higher speeds? Or am I essentially capped at what I'm currently getting?

Interesting about that IP passthrough glitch I have noticed sometimes the Verizon cube will reset at night but my eero pro just temporary disconnects then reconnects when Verizon boots up.. could be something other than the glitch you mentioned but I have no issues with ip passthrough tbh I usually reset the gateway once every other day because I noticed that speeds slow down sometimes and maybe I'm paranoid about de prioritization

wondering what adjustment i can make to my tplink deco m9 plus mesh and/or 5g home base (arc version) being used together.  before, the mesh extended our prior hotspot signal & speed well through the house, but now when the mesh is coupled with the 5g home base, dl speeds are way down to 50ish on the other end of the house, instead of 300’ish when in the room with the equipment.   it just isn’t broadcasting  the speed very far.  the deco is a foot away from the home base, with both being on one end of the house (best speed location).  any ideas to help get the faster speed to travel throughout the 2000 sq ft house?

Hello Nate, I watching this video and I have a question. I have the latest T-Mobile Internet Gateway the Sagecon Fast but it does not allow us to turn off DHCP on the Gateway as in the Verizon one that you are using in the video. So they question is, Do I setup my Linksys Mesh Router (MX4500 model) as Static IP as you have shown in the video with your ASUS Router? Do I turn on DMZ on my Linksys router since this is not an option on the T-Mobile Gateway?

Excellent explanation and a fantastic video. I learned more from your video in fifteen minutes than I did scouring the Internet for hours on this subject.
So thanks!
Question, if I want to use the same Asus router and Verizon 5g internet gateway as shown in the video, how do I set it up so I can use the Verizon 5g gateway as a wifi router for the house and the Asus for my garage 100ft away. I have cat6 between the two locations.
Thanks in advance for any information you can pass on.

Are these settings also ok for gaming purposes? I have 2 series X that have 400+ ping spikes. But only started recently. Any tips? I have a nighthawk ax3000 but I’ve never tried this.

I was looking for any insights on connecting a Google Mesh Wifi router to the Verizon ARC 5G. I tried duplicating some of the settings described in the video on the ASK but have been unable to provide internet to the Google Mesh router.

Thanks so much for this... The newer Verizon Internet Gateway (FSNO21VA) router has an option to amiable IP Passthrough with a single click. It will disable Wifi, DHCP etc. I am using a Sonicwall TZ470 Router. For the Network Connection Interface for the Verzion WAN, I had to select DHCP instead of a Static IP from the Verizon for it to work.

Thank you for your video. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions for assistance. I just set up my Verizon 5G Home Internet Gateway and I'm trying to do the Port Forwarding for my LTS Security System and IP Cameras. I went into the Advance Settings on the Verizon Gateway and attempted to set up Port Forwarding but had no success. I input my DVR iPv4 address for Port 80, Port 8000, and Port 8554 but it didn't work. Any suggestion?

I was wondering if I buy a router and connect it into the Verizon Gateway, then plug my Ethernet cable for my LTS Security System into the new router, can I then go into the router and set the Port Forwarding up in the router bypassing the Verizon Gateway. Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Ken

Cool vid! All the acronyms you were using remind me of my A+ and N+ training from 11 years ago. You sounded like my teacher.
