"'Through the Depths' is a conversation between a higher power and humans regarding the power of thinking ideas into existence, but being very careful of being arrogant behind those wants and needs.
The first lines give this away: “Attention attention, you’re seeking, you've asked for, it’s given" (the higher power says).
Then the lines of the chorus are that same higher power speaking to humans, saying: 'through the depths to the ascension, nothing you wouldn’t do for my attention, held to the fire it’s not my crime, you've pinned it on me for the last time.' Meaning - don’t blame the Gods (pin it on them) for your fuck ups. Meaning - put it out there and take steps to attain goals and take accountability.
This track is the essence of Dealing With Demons Vol. II, and the conversations within the record get way deeper than even this.

I became a metalhead in 2003. Life was Devildriver, Lamb of God, and Chimaira. Those were the holy trinity for me. Chimaira unfortunately dismembered, but luckily LOG and DD are still cranking out music 20 years later! No album will compare to the first 3 of each band because of the impact it had on me, but I shit you not I am just as excited about this new album as I was about Fury. The last 2 DD albums were my least favorite, but this new single brings me back — not to Fury or LKW, but a Winter Kills era which was also fucking incredible. Still rolling with ya, Devildriver!

Devildriver was the favourite band of my best friend, who sadly took his own life.
He got dealt a shitty hand all through life, especially growing up.
I miss him dearly, and i regret not being there for him when he needed help the most.
It is hard to help others when you feel like you're stuck in a hole yourself, but still.
RIP Richard.
May we meet again under better circumstances.

This is a powerful song, and as a Christian here? It makes me think of how the Old Testament is basically God telling us "Guys, I love you all, but you are TRYING MY PATIENCE WITH YOU." I interpret that as Him showing tough love to His greatest creation to help us get back in line. The message of this song where God is telling us "Hey, *you* did that, don't look at Me--take responsibility for yourself, " makes a lot of sense to me, because it's when people think they have it all under control is when we're most vulnerable to sin and complacency, among other things. Overconfidence comes from pride, and as it says in Proverbs 16:18? "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." That's what that's making me think, anyway.

I'd recommend sticking with their early material: The self-titled album, Fury of Our Makers Hand, Last Kind Words, Pray for Villains. Beast, Winter Kills and Trust No One aren't bad either, but their latest material is so bland. I think Iona was really the only song that hooked me, just my opinion.
