I can only guess that it had been running a while and so friction created heat and thermal exoansion. It was then turned off for a short period allowing it to cool whereby materials either fused together or the motor didnt have the start up power to over come the frction.

Mine had the same issue, I just put a new motor in it.

Interesting 🤔. Damage to the fan may indicate something got jammed in it which may have lead to the other symptoms Mr B. ?
