I have one of these and it's an absolute dream. Dual clutch is fast and crisp. I have no issues with the infotainment like alot of YouTubers did. It's designed like a smartphone and it works like one.

VW responded to what customers like. The Pretoria wheels are iconic to the the Golf R. I have a 7.5 R and although I like the those wheels the Pretorias on the Mk7 look much much better. I don't like the black paint that has been the trend on alloy wheels. The Prets are all one color, looks much cleaner. Love the look of Prets on the Mk8.

I traded in my 2018 6 spd Golf R for the last 6 spd (2024 Golf R). I have the Pretoria rims (like my 2018 and love them). I love my new one! Not sure what all the negativity is about but I love it! Have seen some videos on the 2025 and I’m not impressed with some of those changes. Infotainment looks like an after thought on it; R badge on the door…ugh and illuminating the logo is just cheesy. Nevermind the fact that it only comes in automatic….sad!!!

The Pretoria are neither outdated or cool, there are classic. Is the GTI enough for the average Jo? Probably yes, if you dont live in a snowy region or take a full specs GTI (resale value).

You'd love mine, manual with a golf ball BFI shifter, I've done a ton of mods making it oem plus. Truly an amazing vehicle. We'll see how long my stock clutch lasts with the APR high torque 93 octane stage I tune.

The Protoria wheels might work if they are finished in black. As is they look dated, and VW should have kept the wheels they had on the 2023s. They are switching to new forged wheel in 2025 which also looks best in black.

The 2024 has a terrible sound system. The previous Fender system in 2017 rocked. Otherwise I love this car
