It's like driving missile with the aerodynamic of an IKEA furniture

Good show chaps. Speaking as a biker, that Golf is utterly magnificent and I would be honoured to have it go past me. Power to weight must be insane!

I would actually fear for my life sat in that golf as a passenger! Squirming all over with that torque and just a guess but i dont think VW tested the aerodynamics at almost 200mph haha. Love it!

pretty sure it takes more balls to do 300kph in a golf than on a bike...

Sehr beeindruckend.

Just plain awesome!!!! Showing again how truly amazing VW's 4cyl engines are... Sadly, I lost my Dad to brain cancer a little over a year ago but I've kept his MK1 Caddy with a slightly warmed up NA 1.8L 8v pushing a mere 225HP at the wheels, alive and well as my "fun car " and as a rolling memorial to my amazing Dad (between us we've both had a lot of "fun/sleeper" watter-boxer VW's over the years starting when I was only 2 or 3 years old)... While it's certainly a far cry from these German Monsters, even that little truck is a BLAST to rip around in and surprise folks in supposedly "faster" cars with LOL. I'm tempted to drop a 2.0L 16v in it seeing as we're close with a very good VW tuner here in the PNW but that little 1.8L 8V (and the 1.6 Heron Nead motor it replaced) have just been so FUN, and the torque curve, for a sub-2L NA engine, makes them very comfortable and tractable as a DD even in stop/go traffic.

The rider was shortshifting it all the way and a few missshifts. I dont think the bike would be faster though but it would be closer. It would be interesting to see you driving against a tuned bike, Nos or force induction - that would be awesome. Keep up the good work, boba. Cheers

I am not sure what I would enjoy more. Feeling like a flying angel on the R1 or feeling like travelling time in the golf

Lord above that's quick. Now I'll just wait for all the comments from "experts" about it being speeded up. Nice one Boba !

Any car that can leave a R1 like that gets my vote 👍🏻

I own a yamaha r6. I've ridden the r1. They are so savagely fast! Thats one hell of a car to do that. Love this video

Pfff, Cmon, I hate reviews like this. You did everything possible to give the car the MAXIMUM advantage on video, and still show the bike rider go slow to make the car look even better. Perhaps someone that's never raced bikes might be impressed, I'm not. I don't want to take away from the impressiveness of the car, but this video does little to gain credibility.

Also, they started the race at what? 100-130kph? Why not start from 0? Yes, the car might "eventually" catch the bike due the overall gearing, but the car's performance certainly wont look so good when you can barely see the car in the bike's rear view mirror until 3km down the road. If you really like roll-on races so much, why not race against a bike with taller top end gearing, like a ZX-10, Hayabusa, or Ninja H2?

So what car do you need to race vs a 1056 HP motorbike? :D

I built a turboed 1984 GTI to produce about 275hp in the 80's. I tried all types of head sealing technologies from bite ring gaskets to slots and orings. It was amazing. So I know these motors somewhat. Here's the the R1 in this video can do this for years without breaking a sweat. This Golf will need a new engine constantly. Maybe every other run. Mechanically, it just can't hold up to those pressures exerted over the relatively small surface areas. 8 head bolts and 8 crankshaft cradle bolts. Even with a custom head and block with increased mains and head bolts, there STILL is not enough "meat" to hold it together for long. They may say otherwise, but physics rules regardless. That said, very nice build and fun extreme :-)
Oh, and I can tell you that with only ONE passenger in the Golf, it would have been even faster as the extra passenger makes a big difference in a car of that weight.
