Larry Legend : a complete, fast and creative player with outstanding skills (shootings, passes and assists) ! For me he's the GOAT ! Big respect from a French Fan...

He did not have just one skill. He was a complete player.

Larry was incredibly athletic in college and in the pros until he hurt his back. You don’t get to the NBA without being athletic.

Dude was a complete baller..loved Bird

This zero athleticism narrative is ridiculous. He was incredibly gifted. Incredible hand eye coordination, phenomenal quickness, incredible resilience, toughness, and he always seemed to beat everyone else down the floor.

Greatest SF, IQ, Trash talker and Clutch player. Plus arguably Top 3 shooter. He was the original 40 / 50 / 90 player.
He improved a +20 team last season to a +60 team without Parish and McHale. 3x MVP in a row. If he hadnt a bad back, he could be the greatest and he beat every all time player in the playoffs in his era.

The narrative that Bird was not athletic needs to stop!!! Bird as a rookie had a 28 inch vertical = the same as Karl Malone . Bird also had extremely quick hands and superb hand eye coordination = how is the world is that not athletic?? Also Bird was ambidextrous and could shoot and pass with either hand = how is that not athletic?? Bird in the summer ran trails and hills in southern Indiana and had tremendous stamina. Bird often just wore out physically the opposing teams defenders that were constantly chasing him all over the court = how is that not athletic?? Please see the 1984 Finals game 5 where the Boston Garden did not have air conditioning and the temperature at game time was 97 degrees. Bird outplayed every player on the court shooting 15 for 20 and scoring 34 points and pulling down 17 rebounds in the steambath conditions = how is that not athletic?? Please define what you consider how athleticism is measured and defined?? No player that gets to the NBA level is a poor athlete and players that excel and dominate are great athletes.

I don't believe he was not athletic, he was definitely more athletic than some people give him credit for. What made him great was his brain. He was two to three steps ahead of everyone on the floor. This fact also made everyone around him better

Bill Russell said that Bird was the 2nd best rebounder in the league--can't do that in the NBA without physical talent.

The "Larry Bird is unathletic" is the most played out line in all of professional sports.

They really exaggerate his lack of athleticism. He had nearly at 30 inch vert at nearly 7ft tall. And for a slow guy always got back down court to play defense and forced a lot of turnovers and intercepted passes. Reaction time and hustle are a part of athlecism too... bIrd was off the chartd in those categories

For being slow Bird always seemed to beat his guy down court, that big three team were all like that. 85-86 celtics, if not the best team ever, from coach to 12th man highest iq team ever

Larry was a great athlete with great athletic ability. There is more to athletic ability than the ability to run fast and jump high. I bet Larry was a better athlete than Magic and you never hear him described as unathletic. Larry was a pitcher in high school too.

Title is an overstatement.
Bird had superior reflexes, very good agility, even by NBA standards - and he was close to average on most categories.

To quote the great John Salley: “Larry Bird is not slow. What game were you watching? I just played him and he blew by me”.

Larry Bird, especially a young Larry Bird was very athletic, he might’ve also had the best hand eye coordination of anyone in the history of the NBA!
