RIP Roger. Nice to see this vintage episode of a passionate Roger Cook who was an obvious expert in his field. Although he deserved a longer retirement, a life well-lived. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

If I'm not mistaken, Roger actually worked on the first house in 1979, though he doesn't appear on screen. I love how un-slick these early shows were. The last 20years have increasingly become over-produced, but back in the 80's you really got the sense you were on a construction site. I miss the days I would come in from a cold afternoon of working in the yard to watch This Old House. And I definitely miss Roger Cook.

As a young teenager I watched these episodes always waiting for Roger and listening to everything he said and now as an adult I’m truly thankful for everything I learned from him.

Roger is a beast. He's dropping knowledge while working and looking out for the other guys all at the same time lol

Imagine that, supervision! An architect who knows his stuff and Roger's quality crews all working together.

Dear friends, it’s been a long time since I watched tv, had cable etc…. About 15 years without a tv.
Recently I had major surgery and had to recover close to the hospital for very close monitoring. The air bnb had big tv and I watched this old house for hours and hours. Once back home, I pulled up toh on YouTube because I missed watching it so much as I’m still recovering. I discovered to my great sadness Roger had left us….i pray for your family sir and have my greatest respect!

It would be a nice tribute to Roger to revisit this property to see how those trees he hand-picked and planted are doing 36 years later. His segments on TOH were my favorites.

Bob Vila always made it about himself. I was happy to see Steve come in after Bob got the boot

Glad to see they hired Man at Arms as the landscape architect

I like how they try to make it seem like Bob just showed up and started talking.
