I've been a chef for over a decade and I gotta say..
Canned toms are the only vegetable that can actually hold as its own taste thru being stored.
Theres nothing wrong with canned tomato at all, just needs a wee touch of fresh tom with it to enhance the flavour. they said it was salty and couldnt taste the pancetta, so you cant say it was lacking in tomato flavour

Quite funny and ironic at the same time since Bret (from Hell's Kitchen Season 14) knew someone from his season (besides many others including Meghan, T, Michelle, Milly, Nick, Josh, Alison, and Randy) who served her signature dish that involved a jarred can of marina sauce and even argued with Chef Ramsay for her decision to use a can of marina sauce for her signature dish.

I’ll still never understand why they provide canned items when the judges hate it so much

Tomatoes are one of the rare foods that hold their validity even when canned

Canned Tomatoes are actually pretty common. A lot of chefs actually use them over fresh tomatoes for a multitude of sauces and soups. Ramsay probably knows that too, he just has to act shocked for the camera whenever anything in a can is mentioned.

It looks like it's supposed to be winter around you, which means it's not tomato season. Canned tomatoes will definitely be better than bland hothouse tomatoes. Most chefs know this.

My favorite parts of Hell's Kitchen are the cut away bits where fellow contestants always admonish the other contestant for something they'd 100% do themselves and just got lucky that they didn't do it before someone else did.

Wow. Even *Raj* never did that. Canned tomatoes can speak for themselves, they know who they are.

If Jen participated in this challenge, she would accuse the canned tomatoes of trying to clown her.

I'm surprised Bret didn't win, he makes that 4-5 times a week

If you use canned produce, at least back it up with the fresh.

Canned isn't always bad, sometimes it can provide better taste than the fresh. But for a competition like this one, you should always use some fresh veggies/ fruits especially when you need to make a nice, hearty soup to warm you up.

That 'Pho' was beyond an insult.

Whats wrong with canned tomatoes? I saw lots of pro chefs using stuff like san marzanos with no issues.

For a moment, Trev considered singing the Brian Boitano song from the South Park Movie.

I love the way they pretend to know who these people are like "what no way it's the guy from the thing"

Canned tomatoes are picked at the peak of freshness and works well for many dishes.
