Six months after seizing power in a coup, Myanmar's military has officially named itself a "caretaker government".
Leader Min Aung Hlaing took over as the prime minister.
Earlier, he promised to lift the state of emergency by late 2023 and hold multi-party elections.
Al Jazeera's Tony Cheng reports from Bangkok, Thailand.

Lets face it, this general won't step down and allow free and fair elections to take place because he'd be in the dock within hours facing serious criminal charges..

What kind of world are we living in ?

Myanmar people have high regard for their culture and tradition. The vast majority of innocent people of Myanmar have suffered for way too long, at no fault of their own. Peace and prosperity to all beautiful wonderful Myanmar people! 🙏

It’s crazy how the US allows countries around the world to commit genocides but selectively gets outraged about things that goes with there rush to war policies

2023 election will be the same as 2010 election. Only parties backed by military will be allowed to compete. There are nearly such 25 parties.

He promised himself that aung young suki will not get a chance to participate the next election, I am not sure he can do that and she might appear before the next election because there is no need for another election and he may not be around when this happened. The situation there is quite interesting and unpredictable, anything goes. Asking for two more years is not a wise choice for him. He is not trying to restore the confidence of the people but rather that of his own army. It will be fantastic if the people of Mynamar can win with their own effort, which is not impossible. The real problem in this whole episode lies in the suffering of the people. Let us do whatever possible to shorten the pain. The shorter the better. May the blessings given in the beginning put everything right soonest.
