Making airspace around Mongolia safer.

Look, If RuSSian aircraft were properly maintained and aircrew properly trained, the commanding officers could never afford their yachts and Sardinian villas - and that would never do.

The jet engines that are in the TU22 bombers are the same ones Russia had problems with them catching fire. So you are probably right about it being a tech problem that brought it down.

The washing machine chip went into an early spin cycle!

to be fair, hit by a missile does produce a technical malfunction.

For some reason, the way you said “goofball” made me crack up.

The place Irkutsk is worth 4p on the old board game Risk's horrible map of the world. Apart from that I never learned much about Irkutsk...

It probably hasn't had proper mechanical maintenance in 2 years so no surprise if it gave up on aviation life mid flight.

...Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust (yeah)
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust...

It's pretty common, in and out of war, for accidents to occur in any military, causing the lost of equipment and personnel. We shouldn't be surprised that it happens in Russia as well.

Fair is fair, unlike Russian aviation maintenance, which was poor before sanctions

“It wasn’t Ukraine that made it crash, it was our own incompetence.”

Let me guess that bomber had 100 Ukrainian POWs as well.

Presumably these come fitted with a Blyatbox recorder to assist crash investigators.

Remember the MH-17 crash in 2014 that was a twitchy finger aswel but it was a BUK and only citizens were aboard that plane! 298 destroyed innocent lives! From all ages!

It just now occurred to me that "Tu-22" sounds like "222", at least when said like that and not "T U 22"! :D

The Tu-22 airframes have had so much use they are wearing out

I'd call it pilot error- its always a mistake to try and fly a badly maintained bucket of rust.

When your military has been reduced to scavenging washing machines for their circuit boards, this is a likely outcome.

Losing your engine is a technical malfunction

pilots: mayday mayday, our engines are unservicable !
airtraffic control: are your engines US ?
pilot: negative, they're Russian !
