If an alarm is send and it is later stated it was a false alarm, air traffic control never assumes the alarm was false. They will always prepare for the worse.
This happened in Amsterdam Airport once with an Air Europa plane still on the ground. The pilot wanted to inpress his trainee by typing the hijack alarm code, but the transponder was accidentally left on. This causes major delays, as flight control wouldn't accept statements that the alarm was accidental. Police and ambulance had to make sure first.

I think if they had squawked 7500 and said "everything is fine", the ATC in this movie would've gotten it way quicker. Even without the 7500 squawk, as soon as a pilot says that, ain't no way they're just gonna let it go so easily.
