An important part of the fantasy premier league game, and perhaps one of the areas that causes the most confusion is player prices and changes. So in this short video, I’m going to explain everything you need to know about how player prices work in FPL, a complete guide. In this video you'll learn, how, why and when FPL prices rise and fall. You'll also learn about the 3 different types of prices; Purchase Price, Current Price & Selling Price.

Q: When do the price changes happens?
A: This video is still up to date, and price changes happen at roughly 01:30 (GMT).

Q: How are the thresholds calculated?
A: Sadly the thresholds are and have always been hidden by FPL. I've taken the following directly from the official website: 'Both the formula used to calculate this change and the time of the change include variable factors, and won’t be revealed to game players.'

Q:Thank you for this video. Had a question. In your examples, if I purchased a player for 8.0, and his price increases to 8.1, I understand my selling price for him is still 8.0. But does that mean I keep 0.1 in the bank? So that I can potentially purchase another player, who has risen from 8.0 to 8.1?
A: No sadly it doesn’t. You won’t just have the extra 0.1m profit sitting in your bank to spend elsewhere, and the player in question can still only be sold for 8. That 0.1 rise will only ever be linked to that specific player, it can’t be used elsewhere.

Price changes being only determined by net transfers is so outdated. They need to have total ownership also affect price. If a 10m player has 0.0% ownership, as it stands now he will never drop in price. They need to have some sort of mechanism to alter price based on ownership, as well.

I’m very aggressive in terms of early transfers and build up squad value such that I’m usually 2mil above the top 100k in the final quarter of the season. It’s risky, but usually I have a very strong late season when it’s hard to make it up the ranks. Eye test and jumping on a form player is also important.

This is my first season playing FPL so thank you for the detailed explanation however I'm still confused as to how that "hidden threshold" for a price change is calculated. I know there are FPL related websites that do a good job of warning you about an upcoming price rise or price fall but I would still like to have some idea how it is actually calculated.

The reason I'm asking is because many FPL content creators are saying we should avoid highly owned bench fodder players because they have a higher chance of dropping in price. I don't understand why this is since I was under the impression that the threshold is based on a percentage of the total ownership of a player so the total number of ownership shouldn't affect the likelihood of a price change. Am I wrong?

I’ve made money on Toney . Bought at 7.7 he’s now 7.9. However, whenever I click remove player it only adds the 7.7 buying price and not 7.8 profit price that I made on him, any idea why?

Also, good to mention that the threshold is within a window. Not the same to have 100.000 net transfers in 3 days than in 3 weeks.

When you wildcard, if you already have a player do you get him at the current price or the purchase price?

2:01 this is what I don't understand, sometimes a player's price doesn't even go down when millions sub him out week after week but someone can blank one game and his price goes down the next day. For example Salah and James this season. They must have someone clicking the confirm button and do what favors their own team. Very shady.
