Watched this last night on your recommendation l and loved it. Hoskins and Cathy Tyson had incredible chemistry, and his brutish physicality contrast with how elegantly she sliced through space was amazing.

Watched it a second time this morning with the Criterion Channel audio commentary from the director and Hoskins....a second viewing was even better I think, properly appreciating just how naive George was on his journey, despite viewing himself as the hero the entire way. Hoskins and Neil Jordan mentioned a few times how it was a trek through Dante's descent into hell.

Gem of a movie I'd have missed without this video, so cheers for the find.

Thanks for the reminder of this movie! Back in the 80's, I remember trying to watch this but it was def over-my-head at the time. I've now put it on my List for a re-watch, especially since I'm just so much more "sophisticated" now... (well, cinematically speaking).
All I really remember about it is Bob Hoskins being in it. At the time, only knowing Hoskins from newly released "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", I watched this movie wanting to see more Hoskins, and quickly discovered this wasn't a Disney movie, lol

Man, the groove on the outro today... WOW!!! Absolutely lovin' it!!!

Ooh nice to know you too have the Criterion channel. I would love any recommendations you have for that channel. I just watched the very wacky “The Swimmer” — late 60s weirdness at its best.

Unfortunately George Harrison produced one of the worst movies ever the same year as Mona Lisa - “Shanghai Surprise” with Madonna and Sean Penn (3.2 on IMDb). It destroyed his production company. Maybe letting Sean Penn and Madonna have their way was not the way to go in this case.
