In this video, we take on the challenge of building an indestructible trough for the pigs so they can have water during the dry months in the summer. We think we have a design that is going to work, but only time will tell.

Troy the one thing that I have learned is the word "INDESTRUCTIBLE" is just a challenge for pigs!
Our Pigs have pushed around 700 Lb Bales of hay like it was nothing and their water barrel mounted on a pallet when full. So I am looking forward to seeing what they do to this.

Troy, you know how much we love seeing you do anything with the pigs!! Very interesting project, and will look forward to updates on its use.

I love watching the pigs...can’t wait for piglets! I know we’re a long way from that, but don’t burst my bubble!

Curious why you don’t use water nipples for pigs? We use them for our chickens and pigs and they stay clean, cheap and easy to set up.

Great idea. Easy build. We will be trying this out. Thanks for the great video Troy!

Those pigs are like my grandson,
He could tear up an anvil. LOL
Only time will tell if they destroy that. Ha ha.

Granddad always made feeders with 2 pieces of wood nailed together in a V form for all the animals on the farm. That way when it rotted or broke or needed replaced, it didn't cost anything and was simple. On the water deal, we have a creek that never dries out, Granddad always kept cattle, hogs, chickens on his farm, and he worked in the mines as a blacksmith (Logan WV) back then you could bring dynamite home and use it on stumps and things around the farm, so he got some and used it in the bedrock in the creek in front of our house (used to be the cow pasture) he blasted the creek bed to make a hole of water for the farm animals so he didn't have to worry about carrying water. I would recommend you do something similar with your creek. Even if it takes a few days with a sledge hammer and a chisel, I would say the back breaking work for a few days will pay off in the long run.

Great idea ! Was wondering if the water trough would be in the front of the water tank instead of to the side the pigs could all gather around at the same time.?

Might really mess them pigs up drinking "clean water" as they seem to muddy even fast running water holes

Chicken thistle sure was a good podcast. I thought that idea was familiar. Hope it works out well for you!

you would be better off leaving the drum as it was and installing 4 pig water nipples in it, , then you have 45 gallons of water for weight and clean water out of the nipples, i have poly pipe for summer use all over the farm many hundreds of feet, and put the nipples on trees.. witch you could also do feeding them from your big tank, the pigs dont seem to mess with the black poly pipe, sure it get covered in dirt from them rooting, but hay, no work on my part to put them under ground

We don't have the pigs (yet) but goats bring there own challenges. We use half barrels in a couple of their paddocks and I was going to build a cradle for them, etc., but ended up just putting them out on the ground with cinder blocks to level. Sounds too simple, but frankly, makes changing the water out if needed very simple. Just take away the blocks and tip it to one side. I get that will not work for the pigs, but I did experience issues with the plugs at the bottom. I used food grade barrels, of course, and did not realize the vent bung can be punctured during emptying, which stands to reason, so mine had a hole in it I had to seal. Then, the other bung was a leaker. Just created an unexpected challenge and curious how long my caulk will hold up before I have to order my "Flex Seal" screen door boat sealer....

Just build a manifold with 3 or 4 water nipples under the tank then run a splitter out the tank valve with a short host to feed the manifold and still run you hose down hill like you was talking about.

OK, my wife and I were debating back and forth what Kelly's shirt had written on it. If you don't mind, could you tell us what was written on her shirt? We could never read the whole shirt and we kept guessing trying to come up with what it might say.

Troy you don’t think they will try to get in there then get fastened then drown?

Can you give an update about how it works a year later? Thank you

Always love the content Sir. Quick question, I have never had or used a saw mill, so I apologize if this is a ridiculous question. That barrel looks to be all heavy plastic. Could you have used the mill to cut it in half? Faster, straighter? Just wondering.
Thanks for the great videos! 🐝😎
