It’s nice to hear someone talking about inductance and interaction between parts instead of just resistance. Thx

I am a recent subscriber. Learned more about pickups in the last few weeks than in 20 years.

I never realized how in the dark I was on pickups and the techniques and technology that goes into them. Thanks for all the info you put out there D!

Very nice of you Dylan to offer this give away. I was already a subscriber for a while. I am always watching your videos, i like them a lot because of how much they are informative. I just dont comment too much on the videos cause i would be asking a lot of questions and opinios XD. Unfortunately for me i am not within USA, i'm from Brazil, therefore, i am out of the contest, but i wish luck for you to grow your channel and for the people that can participate in winning this.

You are extremely knowledgeable. I realize how fortunate I am to have old man Van Zandt rewind (in 19991) my 67 Lead Telecaster pick-up. He was a Great guy. He showed be everything. The hand feed pickup winder (not like ones of today it did not count turns) he got from Leo Fender in his shop, a little 10' X 12' wooden shed in his backyard. He had by year all every make & model of pickup cut apart with notes & diagrams describing the materials & the assembly process weird colored magnets (the blue-ish ones stood out) & all kinds of winding wire (not just copper) from all from Pickups he had taken apart. It was a working Museum of History on Pickups.

Giving your videos a scientific approach to guitar pickup construction & usage is like no other videos out there. Good job guy.

I’ve been playing for 20 years now and have only recently started to take more than a passing interest in how everything actually works in the guitar. Before, especially in the early days, I was happy to just play and enjoy that aspect of it, but as I get older I’m taking much more of an interest in how it all works, especially pickups. This channel has been excellent for learning about that and I’m glad some of the videos popped up in my recommended videos.

Really excited to see this. I’ve come to really appreciate your vids because you provide actual useful information.

I have a request, if I may. I would love to see a vid or series (however long it would take) explaining the differences in all the different types of pickups (humbucker, single coil, lipstick, p90, hot rail, gold foil, et al) and why a neck pickup is different than bridge, why you slant one or the other or both, etc... all that shit.

Sweet, so glad everyone picked the AX120! It should be a really fun mod. Looking forward to the adventure.
Thanks for taking us with you Dylan.

TIL I never actually heard an authentic Fender Wide Range Humbucker, thanks for the explanation, Dylan!

I watched a bunch of these videos last week and meant to comment - I really love the way you explain and discuss and generally chat about the different pickups! Reminds me of the good journalism about music gear we got in the 80s from knowledgeable writers before the flood of opinions and cork sniffing that came with the bulletin board and forums era once the net arrived! Great videos mate!

Hey Dylan,
Can you do a Filter’Tron Vs PAF breakdown?
I searched & didn’t see one already, unless I missed it?
Also, I have a Tele with Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack pickups.
They sound just like single coils to me, but without the hum, how is this achieved?
I also don’t understand about their DCR?
It is 18 for the bridge & 15.8 for the neck, but their actual volume output is nowhere near as loud as either the Gibson Classic 57’s, which are around 8 DCR, for example, or the Tyson Tone Lab P-90’s I have which are 7-8 DCR.
Why & what does all that mean?
Thanks!

It's nice to hear about Number of winds and all those technical bits so now I know the answers to the questions I have in my head thank you for that.

Always love your insights and perspectives on how each component of a guitar contributes to its sounds and playability. Keep up the good work. 👍🏽

Although it is an “old” video, I like this clear explanation about the difference in the first place, and the fact there is hardly a difference since the reissue’s. Thnx!

Good info. Subscribed. I didn't even know that the Wide-range humbuckers were significantly different from other humbuckers.
