Thank you for addressing financial abuse! So many do not understand it or recognize it. To hear the caller's pause when she realized it was heartbreaking. Nicely done ladies as always!!!

Sharon - if you have a joint account you can go to the bank and get your own login to all the accounts on which both of you have your names. GO TO THE BANK and find out - and also pull your credit reports and the title for your home (to be sure your name is on it). This is not your husband - this is YOU not protecting your financial situation and you are also responsible for all the decisions that are made. As usual, the RS personalities make judgments with only one side of the story. With $105, 000 you have enough money to support yourself and your kids! I would NOT give an ultimatum tonight. I would go to the bank and pull credit reports and figure out what the actual situation is FIRST and then you will have facts to face him for what could be a difficult conversation.

I have one comment, for almost every show: why do people not know how much they make, take home, per paycheck? I understand maybe not knowing every penny you owe to every entity right this minute. But, when you take the time to call this show, you should at least have the basic info ready to tell them. I thought everyone knew what they make, then I took a poll at my job, and most of them didn't know what their take home is because their wives take care of the finances and they have direct deposit. People, you need to know how much you make and how much you owe.

Sam - don't worry too much about saving all that 529 money for your kids' college. They really promote 529s on the RS, but college and workforce training is changing very rapidly and what will be needed in the workplace when your kids are ready for college is very different from what employers want today. Get out of debt, pay off your house and you can cash flow college for your kids. Make sure they understand that they will be doing college on the cheap - earning college credits while in high school, community college, and state school with in-state tuition to finish a four-year degree if they EARN that right. You will have plenty of money left in the 529 if you do that. Take the tax cut now and buy the house! You will be amazed at how much you can cash flow with no debt and a paid for house which will greatly appreciate in value by the time your kids are ready for college. Fewer than 50% of students finish college in 6 years or less. There is very bad ROI on college degrees, especially for certain majors.

The husband who want to control all of the money yet the wife earns it all. That is his way of controlling things where he feels less then. Also, he is up to something he does not want you to know about.

Sharon of MI. Flags are waving and bells are ringing that something is not right. Open another account and send your income until your husband come clean.

Mark, you can have just as great memories with friends in lawn-chairs around a bonfire as you can with friends on a $50k patio. Pay off the house.

I was definitely one of those ladies who was 33 and settled for a guy 36 living at home, and I gave him B.O.D because his parents seemed to be good ppl. 12 years later, I realized they were just happy to get him out of their house, we're in debt, and he has stated he's not going to seek help or share his finances. I'm losing right now, but in the end, our kids and I will WIN! The near impossible DR talks about is true, but I'm shedding blood, tears, and sleepless nights with gazelle intensity for POSSIBLE!

I am so triggered by clueless women. She could walk in the branch and get a statement. She can see her payslips. This is no marriage and she needs a backbone. I never let a man walk on me like that. I saw a widow pay with a check in front of me at my job and she didn't even know how to write a check.

I don't do a zero based budget - and never have. I just can't predict to the dollar what will come up during the month that I did not anticipate. I use Every Dollar by putting in all my fixed expenses (including savings and funds for other items we are saving for) and I see the figure up at the top that is still left for the month. As we need or even want to buy other things as the month goes on, I enter them into Every Dollar and that figure at the top goes down and we know how much we have left. I do the entries, but my husband likes to keep check on the site, too, and see what money is still available if he wants to get something. I really like Every Dollar, even though I use it differently - and the "look back" feature to the same month last year is very helpful (and also makes you realize how much prices have gone up1)
