I use the Calloway warbird balls play off 8 and love them I tried the better Calloway balls and went back to the warbirds as I preferred them have no trouble getting them stopping on the green and feel great on the short game shots . £17 for 12 . They go pretty long as well of the driver

I’m an OnCore ELIXR player, it’s a 3 piece urethane ball that’s US$30 a dozen and they have bundles where you buy 2 and get 1 free.

How I test balls…I find them in the trees or just in the pond. If they are a softer type they go in play. If they are harder they go to the range. If I make it through the next few holes with the softie, they are a good ball.

Snell is outstanding. Especially for the price

I love the Snell MTB for my go to DTC brand as it performs better for me than a Pro-V or TP5 ball, plus it’s cheaper

Currently use the Wilson Triad. For just over £30 for a dozen it's by far the best value urethane ball. Would like to see you test the Srixon Trispeed, currently under £50 for 36 balls from Clubhouse golf.

If you’re a decent ball striker and you want more control and better spin off the green than use a urethane ball only. Golf balls don’t vary as much off the tee as they do on approach and chip shots. Lower scores ( if that’s what you’re playing for) are made in the short game. You need a ball you can trust in this area. Non urethane balls fall short in this area. If you are a recreational golfer that’s just about hanging with your buddies that’s in the 20+ handicap that’s not concerned with your finishing score then buy the cheapest ball you can find and have fun without the frustration of losing a $5.00 golf ball.

I usually play Vice soft but it was just not good in the wind on Monday. I switched to a Bridgestone and it flew much better but then the short game suffered.

I use the bright green supersoft matte finish balls but I am crap at golf and broke so they suit me lol. I have tried premium balls like prov1 etc but always score better with the matte finish supersoft

Sir Lynn. Like the title “Sir” and the name Lynn. Sir Lynn. They have been covering golf balls with Surlyn since the early 1970’s. Usually less expensive golf balls, but that reduced spin helps the ball go longer for most golfers and straighter for all golfers. I think most golfers would benefit from less spin on all but short sided partial shots or shots that have to carry a green side sand trap. I think very few “blow up holes” come from a shot doesn’t bite quick enough on the green. Big numbers don’t come from the occasional shot that rolls out into the back fringe. They come from poor strikes that spin even further off line into deeper rough, trees, or hazards.

really like getting reiviews of cheaper balls, could you do some testing on old/used balls? I will use a ball unitl it's scuffed up or if I find a good ball I'm happy using that but how long does a ball really last?

My Spaniel, Albi, goes everywhere with me and is better behaved than most of the golfers I play with, plus he is the only proper scratch player in the Club! Oh and decent review. I gave up on ProVs as they are just too pricy and play either Srixon Z-stars or Vice pro and my only comment is that the Vice are less durable on shots out of sand and scuff up quicker though will happily last 36 holes.

I'm also a Vice Pro fan, and get them at discount by buying multiple boxes. I'd love to take my dog out to follow me for a round. She's well behaved and would love it, but unfortunately my club won't allow dogs on the course. Shame, but I think that's the standard for most clubs here in the US.

Srixon AD333 are among the best all round ball for those that don't want to lose a £4 Pro V1, the Costco Kirkland V2 (uk ball) is too spinny and in the wind it just exits the course :D

Dragonflies are scary
I found a dozen Taylor made Project (a) in a cupboard and for me off 8 they do everything the TP5s do - I like to use the range below the premium ball by big manufacturers. I like the Costco balls for bounce games but they do mark so play a better known ball in comps as they look like a new ball for longer

I have not liked the new pro vs. for the money the Wilson duo soft has a better feel. Also tried the chrome super soft. Also good feel and better $.
