As a short rider I appreciate videos like this, but I think when you're in the dense traffic, it's a mess to do all these tricks!

I'm using the "cop mount"' to get on my bike. With the bike on the kickstand, you put your right foot on the right foot peg. It may help to turn the handle all the way to the left, first, for balance. Then, staying close to the bike, stand on the right foot peg and swing the left leg over.
Tip 2: don't ever let tall people tell you what you can and cannot do!
Edit: where I said handle to the right, I meant left... I'm sorry. I get this mixed up all the time 🙄 but hey, you'll get it because you know the words: practice practice practice ;-)

If you’re a short rider(like me. 5.6 with a 25” inseam)(looong torso)and you decide to go out and try these techniques, you’ll find that they are very difficult and awkward.
Guess what? “SHUTUP AND PRACTICE”. You’ll be SO glad you did.
Put in the time. Be willing to fail in order to improve. These skills are truly the difference between believing you are limited to a “short” list of bikes of a certain seat height, and riding any bike you want.
Great video!
Thank you for all you do!

Interesting tips.
I must say that that for my 169cm height (5' 6'') tall seat height is a deal breaker as every stoplight would bring added anxiety to the one experienced focusing on potential threats (distracted drivers) from behind.
The latest ADV from Harley introduces interesting tech which automatically lowers the bike at a stop - this kind of innovation could bring closer shorter riders like myself to a lot of different taller models.
Cheers

Taking off with with the left foot on the peg and then moving the right leg to the other side is what I always did as a kid riding my brother's bicycle 😂

thanks for the video! i’m 5’1” and felt limited (currently ride a Honda Rebel 500). Good thing the military has free BRC classes… i’m going to sign up and practice on the bigger bikes.

Short rider here! 🙋🏻‍♀️ Thanks for sharing this video! I watched a bunch of your other videos after I upgraded from my first bike, a Honda CB300F (which I lowered 😬 ), to my current bike. I ended up shaving the seat and do the half butt cheek off at stops just like you talked about. Your videos really helped me build confidence with my new (taller for me) bike and now riding it feels like extension of my body. Not as nervous coming up to stop signs and red lights anymore! 😁

You can also mount the bike from the right side. Easier than standing on the left peg but need to swing your weight early to stay on kickstand. Thank you very much for these very clear and helpful videos.

First thing to do is set your sag to your weight. I get on and off with the kick stand down. I’m 5’11” so I can get both feet down on my 2021 XR650L with a 37” seat height . Not on my tippy toes but ball of my foot. I was on my tippy toes until I set my sag to proper spec. Good information and thanks.

Thanks for the video :) I am 5.2 and never lowered my bike so i had to learn this from the very beginning. Felt really scary at first :D Now, i am a bit more confident and would love to try out the start and stop trick you showed! I think I already saved a smiliar video of yours, where you showed those tricks.

I'm 5' 7" on a KTM 890R and I've been learning a lot of this on the fly. I have dropped it a couple times though 🙊🙉🙈

Cool!!! That's exactly what I did for riding a bicycle! Never thought I can try it on a bike!

That is impeccable timing. I just started test riding a bunch of bikes this weekend and disregarded some that were too tall.

Well I’m not a short rider but that is some good information. I do the same rolling dismount on my dirt bike and never thought about doing it on the ADV. This video proves that no matter what i think i know, MJ always delivers another option or training. Thanks bud👍. Im going to practice picking up my heavy beast this weekend. I just hope i can lay it over easy🤔

With all due respect....
Your short rider getting on bike techniques are amazing but not really doable for most general public.
My self being shorter rider also on Rally, this is what I did. K-tech Low version rear shock upgrade. Front K-tech suspension spring. Seat concepts low seat. Works for me =)
Anyways as always, many thanx for your great work and super helpful videos.
