People here in South Africa keep on loosing their lives because of this exact thing. I was also attacked by two bulterriër's, but I was lucky enough to escape without injuries. I don't leave my house without my firearm anymore. Even if I go for a walk.

I was mauled by a black lab when I was quite young. Physically I'm fine but I never fully recovered from the mental trauma of that attack. Black labs, although usually good natured, can be nasty and territorial.

Happened to three of my sister's dogs and she's had the police after the owner of the dogs *MULTIPLE* times, she's taken him to court, they've seized (and returned) the dogs on repeated occasions.
But he's still there, and they're still there. She's even been instructed to shoot them freely by both animal control and the sheriff's office... but she knows what the neighbor will do. He's crazy as f*ck when he's off his meds (which is usually).

I had one dog I knew was animal aggressive and she was never, ever, allowed off leash outside the fence. My other dogs, none of them aggressive nor prone to wandering, can do so freely but only under direct supervision.
