I like that the mask isn’t some grotesque over the top bloody monster face. It makes the whole premise and actual thing that provides the fear more apparent: which is that the killer is just a guy, and can be anyone

It really helped make it iconic, I mean Wes woulda made something crazy anyways, but deciding on a non-monster mask I think helped it stand out from the Jasons and grindhouse stuff

I think the black robe is fitting because it gives it like a grim reaper kind of vibe since when you encounter Ghost Face you are going to die anyway... Solid choice 👍🏻

Also the face really reminds of the ghosts from the original Scooby Doo show

It was actually on a bed frame post. Wes saw it in the pictures and really loved it. Marianne tried to recreate it herself (the handmade mask made it into the first scene of the movie) before they contacted the company that made it and got their permission to use the real one.

Wes craven actually didn't like the mask, he accepted it reluctantly.
Also the white hooded one was the original mask from these "Ghostmaker" diy costumes that were ripped off by fun world, which was used for scream.

I love how this story has changed a million times lol. All is true up until about the point where she 'found it in a box of junk in someone's garage.' I feel like this part of the story is blurry because I've heard she found it on a bed post in someone's bedroom, in the garage, on the front porch, etc.

The original creator referred to mask as: "the wailer" in a interview. The mask she found was a knock off of that mask made by fun world, who stole the design like other masks from different smaller mask companies.
