Friends, today in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Chinlone.
Chinlone, also known as cane ball, is a traditional sport of Burma and Myanmar.
The word chinlone stands for basket-round or rounded basket.
This team sport is a combination of sport and dance.
The game of Chinlone is not played for competitive purposes, rather to display creativity and aesthetics.
The objective of the game is to pass the ball and execute a beautiful dance routine.
The game of Chinlone is played between two teams of six players each.
The ball in the game is made out of rattan.
All the players either play barefoot or wearing chinlone shoes that will let the players feel the ball and the ground.
All the players in the team stand in a circle at the beginning of the game.
The objective of the game is to pass the ball back and forth using feet, knees, and heads while walking around in a circle.
While the rest of the team is passing the ball around, a player goes into the middle alone, and the player creates a dance of different moves strung together.
In case the ball is dropped on the floor, the play should start again.
While on the field, the players are allowed to make contact with the ball through the top of their toes, the inner and outer sides of the foot, the heel, the sole, and the knee.
The game can be made competitive by counting the number of times the team has dropped the ball on the ground.
The game is not competitive and it is played to display creativity and artistic abilities.
In a competitive format, the team which has the least number of drops is declared as the winner.
