You know what would have been cool? Pictures on the Scout. I feel like Jeff Goldblum... "Now, eventually you're going to have dinosaurs in your dinosaur park, right?"

Want to sell a lot of them? Make it cheap, capable offroad, and not overloaded with tech and luxury trims that add complexity and expense.

Please put a gigantic battery in it, and an interior with cloth seats and rubber floors. Something you can beat on, that doesn’t cost $90k

I just watched 2 minutes and 17 seconds of a company glazing itself

My parents bought a '61 Scout, new. We camped all over California in it (lived in LA) and loved it. When our family outgrew the Scout my parents bought a '68 VW pop-top camper van, replete with the optional side tent. We took that bus coast-to-coast, on the beach, in the mountains, with three of us kids and two Labradors. If there were a $40k hybrid version of the new Scout I might jump on the waiting list. The external aesthetic is appealing. When EVs in the future can provide 500-mile range with a/c running then they'll have a heckuva lot more appeal for those of us who enjoy long roadtrips and off-roading. Until then they're good for short commutes, local errands, and admiring in the driveway. I'd like to be hopeful for the new Scout but it is being released in an increasingly hostile economic environment for expensive EVs. They need to produce a gasoline engine version, ASAP.

I hope they're just rugged, dependable, easy to repair trucks again without luxury B.S. that they don't need. And they're 25k so the working man can actually save up and buy one outright without having to finance like everything else in life these days. The big companies are all equally raising their prices so ridiculously high out of greed not inflation.

Exactly zero people will be surprised or blown away when they announce a moderate range EV with boxy retro design at $79k.

I was working on improvements for forthcoming Scouts in 1980 when it was discontinued so I am excited to be able to witness its resurgence, yet from afar.. The best of luck Scout Motors!!

Based on the popularity of retro models, such as the Bronco, I believe if you literally just made the old Scout, but meeting current standards, that you would sell as many as you could make and then some. The look is iconic, don't mess with what we see because that's how we want it.

Hopefully they start out with NON EV versions and then a hybrid. I don't see an all electric scout doing well. I think a turbo'd six cylinder would be great. The 2.8L cummins might be interesting. A turbo'd 4 cylinder hybrid. A base model around high 20's to low 30's would be good starting point.

Probably will be 100k when the consumers NEED a simple no frills no fancy bs 25k option that's easy to service.
I just want it to go, turn, and stop, when I tell it to. It doesn't need to make me coffee, play YouTube, or save me from myself when I'm driving.

Scrap the whole project, start over. Make it combustion engine, body on frame, solid front and rear axles. Make it an off road beast to compete with Wrangler and Bronco. Then, eventually you make an electric or hybrid one as an option. The reality is that we are far from seriously having the infrastructure for electric vehicles. Especially in rural “adventure” areas. And electric vehicles just aren’t ready for realistic off-roading and rugged adventuring. You’re just making an electric toy for city yuppies who will never take them off road. Just want something that looks cool and looks like it can go off road. Scout deserves better than this. Thanks a lot VW.

Update after the release**
I can give props to the makers of the Scout for making it body on frame and a solid rear axle. That’s not something we’ve seen on an EV. And there is a gasoline range extender, which will help with off road adventures. So I must applaud the makers of the new Scout for truly taking into consideration what makes a real off-road vehicle. I heard they are aiming for 60k price but we shall see, especially when it is finally released. I still wish they had an option for a i.c.e. powered version, but hey, these are the times we are living in.

I work in the old plant in Fort Wayne. We can't wait to see it, just wish it was built in it's homeplace.

Consumers don’t want another EV. Atleast put a gas or diesel engine in it.

It would be awesome to have this in Australia - we would be more than happy to promote, test and review it in all conditions here down under 😊
