The song “Fortnight” came on the radio while driving in the car. My 4 year old daughter asks, “why did she say she wants to kill her?” Hard to respond to that one. I hadn’t even noticed that lyric til she pointed it out to me. Our kids are listening.

As a fatherof two “Swifties”, I had to take a stand for them when my 17 year year-old daughter received not one but two copies of the latest tortured album. First of all, I prohibited them from being allowed to listen to the album at all, followed by a family talk with my wife present. Both of my kids did not take it well but interestingly, after the talk the following day, they were completely back to normal in terms of their anger towards me. It was a reminder that as a dad and husband, I need to firmly step in when questionable influential sources, pop up, while also, making sure that any correction and discipline that I instill has to be, followed up with quality time, spent with them as well. Believe it or not, addressing this Taylor Swift matter, was one of the most difficult talks I had with my family, reminding me of the powerful influence that this artist is in our culture. Be in the world, but not of it.

While riding with my son he was listening to Beyoncé music and I told him why I refuse to listen to her music and he was really upset but he turned off the radio and we rode home in anger. He got over it and now he don’t listen to her anymore thank God! I refuse to listen to this girls music too. Just don’t sit right with my spirit and prayers for all those young ones still under these music artists spells that it is broken in King Jesus name. ❤️‍🔥🙏🏽🪶

When I was a teen, 50 years ago, my Mom would sit with me a couple times a month and randomly pull RECORDS from my collection to listen to with me. She would ask me about the song, what they were singing about, what the song meant to me, how it made me feel, etc. Now granted, Donny Osmond, The Carpenters, The Partridge Family didn’t really have a lot to talk about. But she was involved in my music choices. Miss her so much.

I work as a merchandiser, and one of our company accounts is stocking books at a popular retail store. 7 books about Taylor Swift in the children's and young teen sections. 7 books. And one is titled, Taylor Swift is Life. I chuckled and shook my head. If that's not a kick in the head. They know what they're doing. And we as parents need to be aware.

My daughter went to her concert last year and really followed her obsessively. I didn’t say much or forbid her to listen to Taylor. I just set an example of who I chose to listen to. Gave her more options. She is reading her Bible more and her faith has grown. And since her relationship with Christ has grown he revealed stuff to her without me doing much.

I am 32 and used to be a fan of hers about a decade ago. But I eventually grew up and matured. I know plenty of Christian women who idolize her. Recently a few women in my Sunday School class flew to Dublin, Ireland to see Taylor Swift. We live in Kentucky. It blows my mind that professing Christian women would spend a ton of money to see Taylor Swift and fly across an ocean. Yet won't fly across an ocean to go on a mission trip.
