I've been carrying a Byrna Hi Viz model which was designed for Police, Security, and Military. I've had it for the past year and spent dozens of hours practicing with it to the point that I can hit a 2 inch target at 20ft with all 5 rounds no problem. My son has one as well because he was taken hostage last November by an armed drunk guy on the commuter train he was riding home from school on when we lived in California. You can buy the kinetic rounds which are much more effective for stopping aggressors instead of using Pepperballs which can get you in trouble for discharging of a chemical weapon in a public venue. The Byrna is legal in California except in San Francisco because San Francisco passed a local law that stops people from owning it because it was hurting the criminals who were trying to rob people and the DAs didn't like that.

The Pepperballs have always been illegal for civilians unless youve taken the Chemical Certification Exam, but Governor Newsom changed the rules last Spring so civilians can no longer take the Chemical Certification Exam through Byrna and the BSIS anymore. He only wants Police, Military, and Criminals to have access to Pepperball ammo now. The Kinetic rounds travel at over 210 mph which will really really hurt when they hit, I know because I got accidentally shot in the ribs by someone.

Anyone who carries a firearm should carry a LTL launcher if nothing else so they don't have to deal with the legal issue that come with discharging a firearm if some nut tries something stupid.
I currently have a 16 shot 40 Joules shottie on the way for home protection so I dont have to use my 9mm if I can avoid it.

I appreciate your review. I understand also your choice of color as non lethal. My concern is that a potential attacker(s) may see this as a toy and will not be deterred by appearance alone forcing you to have to discharge the launcher. If it was the colors of traditional firearms that potential attacker might be deterred by appearance alone and discharging it may not become necessary. Not that I am by any means endorsing brandishing the launcher. Having it a non lethal color may also stop law enforcement from making an error that you are holding a live weapon if they happen upon the scene, however with all the cerecoating options that people can have done on firearms making them look like toy guns that may not be of any advantage. I am looking at a less then lethal carry option because of all the legal ramifications of discharging a live firearm in a self defense scenario. The good guy with a gun is looked upon as bad as the bad guy with a gun today. I am also wanting to have this to carry when traveling as some states will not honor or reciprocate on CCP's issued in other states.

Byrna runs sale promotions often so you won't need to wait long to get 25% off and free shipping. Had mine (orange) a year now. Super accurate in no time, so fun to practice with reusable rounds. Remember to always keep an UNpunctured CO2 cartridge in it so you are 100% ready to protect yourself and loved ones.

I live in Florida where most of the California issues don't exist. I have 6 firearms and a rifle. There's one additional reason for a civilian to have a Byrna. I'm 75 years old and live in a retirement area. Short of being robbed at gunpoint, most issues that I'm likely to face don't call for lethal force, yet I might need an equalizer. The Byrna is great for those situations. People may be shot with a firearm and not know it immediately. But if their eyes and throat are burning and they're coughing and choking, they can't help but notice and discontinue whatever they're doing.

The kinetic rounds are very reasonable. They are only $49.00 for 95 of them. They are reusable if you don't fire them into a very hard surface, like a concrete wall or a steel target.

Thank you for your review - the fact that it is hard to conceal is an issue and having to ship it to NJ, because I live in NY was also helpful.

Ex- law enforcement(25 years), now private security operator. Thank you very much for a VERY clear description on these weapons. Your presentation is clearly coming from many years of defense systems. I'm still involved in daily Martial Arts lectures to youngsters and will definitely remember your clear presentation.👏👏

Excellent break down. We're doing a Private Police Department and we plan on using these rounds and the ones in an AR platform. And yes, we will have Lethal, but last resort.

Fantastic video. Thank you. Regarding expenses - you're correct about the ammo and CO2 being expensive IF you buy them on Byrna's website. I bought my CO2's and ammo on Amazon and saved a TON of money. For example: Byrna sells 95 of the hard plastic reusable ammo for $49.95. I got 100 rounds of ammo off of Amazon for $17.95. So as consumers, we must do our due-diligence and shop around.

Here the thing about the ammo. It is reusable. How many times do you think you'll actually need them. For target practice, one bottle is fine. Buy or make a trap to recover your practice rounds. They also have two specific target rounds for sale. One is reusable, the other disperses and is safe for environment in a powder burst on impact. So, having the 20 rounds that come with the gun + 1 bottle of 95 practice rounds, are going to go a long ways to save you a ton of money. You will need the new c02 cartridges, though.

This guy is great. I hope he's in some role in which he's teaching/instructing people - he's an excellent speaker, a skill that's surprisingly rare in a country full of native speakers. He just made my short list of greatest communicators in America - people who are clear articulators who aren't just making sounds with their mouths, but actually communicating the ideas in the heads in a way that nothing is lost in translation. People might be curious who else I consider on this list - Greg Hartley, former Army interrogator, host of the Behavior Panel. And the other person Luke Thomas (MMA journalist).

I like your idea of this item looking less lethal for your use, thank you.

Walking the dog, attacked by 3 medium sized dogs off their leash, with Byrna LE and Max OC/CS balls shot all 3 in two seconds, dogs hauled butt.
We also have Black bears in the area, the air horn works best, but I carry a Byrna as back up. The Byrna also makes a loud pop that will help to deter an animal.

I own a Byrna launcher and since I have not had a need to use it for years it just sits in an optimal place. My concern was the shelf life of the projectiles since they were so expensive... This was their reply... "Optimal shelf life for the chemical projectiles is around 18 months from the delivery date. The chemicals remain potent for much longer than this, however the chemical cloud may not disperse as well which can reduce the effectiveness of the projectiles after 18 months. " ... Does anyone have any real life experiences with this?

GOOD REVIEW, we just had a person come into our store wielding a machete and waving it around and yelling, the door to our desk or counter is about 20 ft. he stormed that for about 5 ft. and stopped giving enough time for customers to get out the door then he stood there for a second and turned and out the door he went, called the police and they caught him and DID NOT ARREST HIM because he didn't threaten anyone, now I'm looking at options other than lethal force, I'm sure I would be in jail now if I had dropped him if I had a gun

This is a PERFECT option for RV / Campers - many or all State and National Parks do NOT allow firearms.

Great video. Their ads say it is nonlethal which seems to be giving people false impressions. Great job clarifying. It would have been nice to hear someone with your experience also talk about the quality of how it operates.
