In tonight's first episode of The Gaz Williams Show I am joined by the internationally renowned synth legend Lisa Bella Donna! I also continue my journey in to eurorack with the rather glorious addition on the Moog Subharmonicon. My rack is going to be a beast! I also reveal at the end of the vid the next module in the adventure!

Initially it's very tempting to stuff your modular with all the flashiest modules, but soon you'll realize that what you really need is some basic utility modules that let you manage the plumbing. There's a saying that goes "One can never have too many VCAs", and while it isn't strictly law, right now you would really benefit from it. Otherwise, most of your modulation will end up sounding more or less like 30 minutes into this video, since your setup is lacking attenuators and thus the modulation is blasting on full level. If you learn the habit of ALWAYS patching a modulation signal through a Voltage Controlled Attenuator, that's when you learn to create subtle patches as well, not just the noisy ones.
One example of such a utility module is the VCA Matrix from 4ms. It allows you to route 4 signals to 4 different outputs, and crucially: Control how much of each signal is routed where. You can use it as a way to split a signal to multiple destinations, you can use it to mix multiple signals, and you can attenuate and modulate this over time. Besides, that type of module is a real good test to see if the world of modular synths is something for you in the long run, since it taps into the most basic of modular methodology.

Hi Gaz, welcome to the world of Eurorack. The Minibrute 2 and Rackbrute is where I started as well. You’re in good company! It’s also great to see you doing a show like this as well. I will be watching for sure.

Gaz should have Ms. “Travarsi “ appear on his show from “perfect circuit “ she is my pic for best modular/ synth goddess! An absolutely incredible performer who is light years ahead of us old synth guys and is still extremely cool and “shares the knowledge “. I know she could be a great guest and enlighten your viewers too! Peace Christo👽🎶🐕☮️🛸🛸🙏a “punk rock synth dude”

Great show Gaz! This will be a cool post-show to SonicTalk every week. Considering the complexity of what's going on behind the scenes I think it came off amazingly well, it was fun, honest and off the cuff. Dug the music ...the video and performances.. as well.

I’ve been waiting years for someone from the Sonic State crew to get into Eurorack. Happy wiggling!

Good choice with going for the bigger modules! I made the mistake of going for lots of small ones and ended up needing way more cables and modules than managable.

Hey Gaz, great stuff but it would be great to have you and your interviewee onscreen at the same time. Not sure what you’re using to stream, but if you could do a picture in picture with you and your guest it would be great. You would of course need to have the monitor you are looking at sitting behind the camera that’s looking at you. Just a thought. Look forward to your future streams.

Hi Gaz - really nice stream and what a great guest man, you’re enthusiasm and passion is very infectious 👌Feel you’re pain with the streaming situation - I’ve been dabbling myself with OBS in these lockdown times for my DJ streams. Creating different scenes is fun but it’s easy to mess up with the audio sources as I’ve found to my peril..(Dam why is there 10 mins of music missing in the midddle!!doh 😂) all the best..Tony...
