Does the kit need to be hooked up to an external sound source? Speaker, Etc?

I just bought this kit yesterday. New to drumming. I’m trying to use it with ezdrummer 3 but the sensitivity seems to be all over the place. Sometimes it misses hits and when playing cymbals I hear the toms being triggered. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I also tried using a simmons preset in ezdrummer but I hear no difference.

These are my settings in my titan 50 module.

I adjusted all sensitivity to 32.
Retrigger to 1
Threshold to 0
Curve dynamic
Xtalk to 0
