Helping my Dad, setting this up. He has Sirius years ago, and, as you said, he finally was offered the $99/3-year deal. Trouble was: to swap to another car, there’s a $15 fee added. Was on the chat line 3 times, refreshing signal, etc, but it still doesn’t work. Also, the special deal only includes a fraction of available channels. What a pain.

Personally I enjoy Channel 148, Radio Classics. Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Red Skelton, radio dramas, westerns. My SO likes 60's on 6. As for signal drops, hill sides to the south, make it hard to pull signals in.

Great review. Straight forward, not trying to be all cool. Just right. Thank you!!

Great review and great comments pro and con. A pro is radio sports. You can listen to almost any ballgame in a major sport. They’re usually blacked out on I❤ and TuneIn.
Second pro, is if you have it in your car, you automatically get it in on your phone. There may be a two radio minimum. You can then take it anywhere, with many more channels. As far as sports are concerned, you normally get the home team’s announcers, but with the phone app., the road broadcast is available as well.

I have SiriusXM ! Don't think I could go back to regular FM radio !

My deal-breaker is sound quality, and the lack thereof is SiriusXM's fatal flaw. From what I've read elsewhere they have a very narrow sliver of bandwidth shared by all the streams. The resulting bitrate per channel is vanishingly low and the compression artifacts painfully apparent.

Note that the channel listing may be different depending if you have an older "XM" or "Sirius" radio unit or the more current "SiriusXM" units. Some radios may be able to receive more channels than others.

When Satellite Radio first launched in 2000 under XM then Sirius it was revolutionary. The programming was excellent, especially on XM. You where hearing music on music channels that was well programmed with music not getting attention by mainstream terrestrial radio with such channels as BBC Radio 1. Music channels had talking personalities and you could call in and request something. You also heard channels from different cultures such as Asia and Latino. When the merger took place the quality went downhill fast. Music channels were removed the music quality went more mainstream terrestrial radio repeated over and over and over again. Personalities were removed. The original programming went downhill. Either removed or replaced with programming you already hear on terrestrial radio.

Here's a question. Can you use sx on other units like phone or ipad or smart tv with just one subscription? Good video and review

Good job mate. I've been meaning to get this xm radio. You've clear a lot of things for me. So I've decided to just keep listening to pandora. Cheers

Back in 2009, I took advantage of the lifetime subscription, which cost $300 at the time.

I get a good deal on lease cars through my work and it always comes with a year of satellite radio. I enjoybit and use it all the time when I have it, but when the year is up I just go with local radio or setting up my phone. Unlike TV where I have programs I want to pay attention to, driving music is just void fill.

I couldn't live without my SXM. I pay $8.99 a month app only. No complaints from me. I do wish that they would combine turbo with octane but other than that. I love it

After looking at using a mobile unit, I decided the same as you. They are currently offering me $5/mo for two years.
Do you know if the mobile unit needs an external SAT antenna ? or is it built-in? It's probably more expensive since I can move it around but I don't know.
I like the idea for one vehicle using it as opposed to fiddling with another device.

Main reason I subscribed in November 2018 was because it worked seamlessly with the radio in my 2004 silverado. I didn't have to connect a phone and I could control everything from my steering wheel. (Granted my truck wasn't equipped from the factory with an XM module and I had to "jailbreak" a GM factory XM module that I pulled from a junkyard because it was theftlocked, but that's besides the point.) I fell in love with a few channels, mainly 38, 39, 41 and whatever channel lithium was. There are others that I listen to as well. The song line up is cool for the first month, but quickly gets repetitive. Now, I have 3 radios. One for me, my father and my girlfriend. My bill was $53.38. I like not having to sit through 10~ minutes of commercials between songs, but that's a steep price. I think i'll try the cancel subscription trick.
