Actually Schloss Neuschwanstein services as a template for the Cinderella castle from Disney. ;) Did you know that?

And as a German I can tell you that these were only a few of the most beautiful castles and palaces. We have several thousand castles and a few hundred palaces in Germany.

There's a lot more Castles in Germany. Fun fact: In the seventies a part of the Marburger Schloss (3:20) was actually apartments for students who went to University there. More than 25% of Marburgs population are students. The Philips University was founded in 1527.

1:34 so funny as a German hearing that comment from like every American ever not knowing it's actually the one the Disney castle is based on :D
And 2:40 that's still the Schweriner Schloss, it was written on the previous scene, it's always the same castle/palace when there is no new name shown.

3:29 Castles can be found in almost every city in Germany, and in the smaller cities or may, of course, there is the castle that you can visit, which either still belongs to the descendants of the respective castle owners or castle owners or there is often a tour there possible or sometimes there are restaurants in there as well. And underneath there is of course the village that has always belonged to the castle and of course people live there. It goes without saying that this is a village with a castle or a town with a castle.

The best to find out how they look like from the inside is to visit Germany in the future and travel to these castles and palaces. A few of them are close to major cities with airports or bigger train stations and offering some guided tours.
The most of them were built a long long time ago, which means they are pretty cold in winter times or very expensive to heat them up.

2:59 The Eltz Castle is still owned by a branch of the same family (the Eltz family) that lived there in the 12th century, thirty-three generations ago.

4:32 as you can see, all castles are build on big hills or mountains or surrounded by trees or lakes. It seems like you don`t realize why :) Think about it once more. Greetings from Germany
PS: Basically every town with "-burg" or "-berg" in their name has a castle. Also take into consideration at what time they build those kinds of buildings on top of rocks. What amount of work and knowledge they had and had to put in.

Fun fact: the layout of the castle of Karslruhe and how the streets come out of it like rays, going through the whole city, was actually an inspiration for Thomas Jefferson for the layout and building of Washington DC

3:45 you can visit and also stay overnight in some of the castles near the rhine river.. its very beautyful.
You can find castles everywhere in germany.. in the center of germany near Göttingen almost every hill and every mountain has a castle on top :D ..
Bavaria has castles that are close to the alps and very high in altitude while the castles in Nordrhine-Westphalia are mostly close to the rhine river..
Here in Northern germany you can find just a few, but they are mostly build on islands or surrounded by a deep trench :D
A "Schloss" (Palace) is a residence for the king/etc. while a "Burg" (Castle) is for defending the area .. thats why they look different and have different towers :D

I used to live in one of the houses with the many windows ... Marburg a town of 80`000 in total, of which are about 25`000 students of its university. So behind nearly each of those windows is just one single rented room (like mine back then). The house I lived in was from the early 1400s ... every time a truck drove past, the whole house was shaking; bit frightening, but kinda cool the same time ;) :D
Love your reactions; love to see your excitement and joy!

Greetings from Bavaria

Castles are usually build on high points. First it give a sense of importance and it enables a great view which in the medieval times was importand to spot for example a fire or even a enemy army from far away. There were many Castles build at the great Rivers (Rhine, Danube ect) to collect taxes from the ships faring goods down the river. A great example is the Castle at 7:38 which had a small Fortress on the other sides of the shore where a big chain was put between the castle and the forts to prevent ships form passing until they paid the taxes. A common used strategy for controlling ships traveling the waters. This was used in Istanbul or Havanna.
