My sister was coming from the church and ran into the flock of Gypsies, exactly the same area where you've filmed this video. One of the gypsy ladies approached my sister, said something, hugged her, grabbed the gold chain with the gold cross from her neck, and ran away. Bystanders shouted: "police, police..." but they were gone before the police arrived.
The cross was given by our Godfather when we were baptized in 1972.

This is sad but true. I experienced it when I was walking from Kiev Street in Davit Aghmanashebeli Ave going to McDonald’s near the Metro. I was walking and saw this group of young lads wearing Gypsie clothing. When I was almost near them, one of the youngest approached me and asked for money. I said no. Then all of the sudden the other young people started to approach me and checked my pockets and everything and shouted at them. They then stopped and moved away because I caught the attention of the other people passing by. Glad that nothing was taken from me. So next time I’ll be more careful.

Thank you my Dear, I have a group of children near to the church side of the Georgia Fine arts Museum.
We were prepared for them as they all rushed to us. we had one Lari coins in our pockets which we immediately gave them as they were trying to pull or jackets and we quickly crossed the road. we actually wanted to see the church, but decided it was unsafe. It happened in 2017 Dec, but now i was recently back in Tbilisi and i could see a lot of Police every where which was assuring. I find Georgia to be a safe place to visit and people very friendly, despite the language barrier. Its one of my favorite destinations.

There is the same situation in Batumi. Once I stopped on the traffic light and waited in a car, many children run to my car and started aggressively ask for money. All windows were opened, and children saw my huge dog over 60 kg inside my car, and so they escaped.. thanks to my dog 🐶

This is also common in other Eastern European cities. These Gypsy kids are forced by adults to do these things. These adults responsible for these children should be arrested for scamming tourists and for child abuse.

Thank you for the warning. Might be in Tbilisi for a few days in June.

Reminds me of how best to deal with trouble in South Africa: lock eye contact, and aggressively shout FOKOFF. They get the message. Alternatively, hit them. We call it a moerse klap.

You need to lose any sense of shame and be more effort than the trouble is worth.

Thank you for making this video. I was able to quickly identify something similar that happened to me 2 days back.

Lol. We had a similar situation and no one helped us out! Even the police patrol was hardly few yards away.

Kids snatched our wallets and disappeared. Luckily I found our wallet nearby on street with only credit card insid.

Such incidents are very frequently happening in Tbilisi, which means the local authorities are totally blind to give some attention or they don't want any tourists to visit their place.

Regret, we still not able to forgot 😪 as a tourist we never had such experience in any other country!!

Wow, how things has change. I was there in 2018 and it was one of the savest place in the world. The only thing that caught my eye is the number of beggars in certain tourist places and young and old people making music on public places to earn something from people walking by. Never had I thought that this is a problem in Tbilisi. Thank you for the information.

2024, Tblisi area within a several mile radius of Freedom Square is ridiculously safe. FSq, Old town is busier at night, with no indication of a drug culture, is a pleasure to experience.

During March 2023, I was right in and around this mall, but I didn't have any problems, nor did I notice any suspicious behavior. That's just my experience, it doesn't mean it hasn't happened to other tourists.

Thank you for this video. I was attacked by these children in Freedom Square, Tbilisi. I was so shocked, 6 children randomly grabbed my hands and feet asking for money. I started shouting for help. I could feel their hands in my pockets, trying to rob me. It was so traumatizing and Georgian people did NOT help. They just watched, as i was shouting for help. I managed to get push the robbers away, and they quickly ran. Luckily I had my wallet in a safe place. Tbilisi is not safe, and these are not children - they are criminals.

I was in Tbilisi in Oct 23, staying very close to Galleria. Always felt very very safe, though I guess this sort of thing can happen anywhere.
