I spent roughly 30 years of my professional life working with dual screens. Now, the very reason I went into photography is all about light and optics and I am not trading an optical viewfinder for an an electronic viewfinder. In spite of the exposure marvels (Zebras) and autofocus tracking tricks of mirrorless cameras, you are adding another filtering layer (WB) when using an EVF.
I am sticking to my D850 and long prime lenses to capture the optical complexities of light. To me, it enhances the feeling of interconnectedness I have with our natural environment. I admire the advances in microelectronics in the photosites of camera bodies to capture useful photons in low light conditions but I want my eyes to be in direct contact with the complexities of light.
Since everyone is rushing to buy mirrorless, I might even be able to buy the low light beast, the Nikon D6, at some stage.

farout Ben, good show. I've been a D850 photographer for 5-6 years now and I love this Camera. I will not switch to z system. i tryed one, none or very little difference.

The D850 images are just incredible…if I had a need for sports or fast action I’d consider changing but I don’t need those things. Camera manufacturers throw a lot of marketing wank around to get you to change but for most it’s not necessary

i did an image count on my 850 yesterday...42, 200 images & still going strong. I love everything about it & am resisting going mirrorless, I'll wait till the Z8 comes out.

I purchased a Z9 in June 2022 and in December 2022, decided to go back and buy a brand new D850. I am a 30+ year Nikon shooter and am still devoted to the DSLR format.

I've been shooting with a Nikon D850 for almost 2 years and the dynamic range and detail continues to blow me away, I've also found it's ability to shoot in darker scenes is fantastic right up to ISO 6400 I've got very useable images with no noticeable noise without zooming in and that is easily edited down to be almost none. I primarily shoot wildlife and the autofocus has been brilliant even with birds in flight I've had dead sharp photos and even when I expose for bright daylight in the sky and the birds look near black the detail is all easily brought back, unbelievable

Hey thanks for the great video. I sold my D850 and went mirrorless, (Nikon Z7ii and Z6ii) and I'm honestly thinking of switching back. Mirrorless, IMO is just a different workflow that does not necessarily produce better results. It's only advantage is it's a little lighter. I think the OVF is so much easier to use, especially for using polarizers and grad filters. Blue hour is harder with a EVF knowing that you are in focus. I might wait to see what the Z8 offers, but selling my D850 is a choice I truly regret.

I sold all of my Canon DSLR kit (5D IV + 4x L Lenses) to buy an R5 + RF 24-70 2.8L IS USM lens. I love this new setup, BUT I really do miss the 5D IV, I realise this is a video about the Nikon D850, however I think this video is making me feel nostalgic about my DSLR. I might get a 2nd hand one for a back

I use the Nikon d850 as my main professional camera and I can confidently say it is absolutely fantastic.

I have theD700 and D800E. I'm saving for a 2nd hand D850 but I need to upgrade some lenses to be able to use the resulation. I need a AFS 400mmF2.8 G VR. AFS 24-70mmF2.8 VR and a AFS 70-200mmF2.8 E VR. I will get the Zriss Milvus 500F2.0 Macro next year. I got a used AFS 28mmF1.4 last year.

Now is the best time to buy a Nikon DSLR as there are deals to be made in used or nearly new, and some retailers. Although I don't have D850, I love my D750. (maybe get a D850 if I see a good used one with low shutter for landscape or cityscape at a good price).

I have tested the Z9 last week with a friend and went back to my D850 and said: YOU ROCK! I couldn't even used the Z9 with it's silent shutter after 15 years of using DSLR shutter ( Nikon )
NEVER EVER liked the digital sound of the Z9 shutter it's so silly.
I sold some DSLR lenses and got Sony mirrorless for video but still keeping D850 with prime lenses ( 35 1.4G, 200 F2, 600 FL)

For used equipment try looking into Map Camera in Tokyo. Great selection, lens was listed as ‘near mint’ and it looked new and operated as expected. They have an eBay store. Most prices included shipping and it arrived in North Carolina in the US in 3 days. Worth a look….I’ve never purchase used before and this was a great eye opener.
