In order for you to sell your music on Spotify and start collecting some streaming revenue you need to do two things. The first thing to selling your music online and on Spotify specifically would be to make it available online with a music distributor. For example, DistroKid. This is the first step to selling your music on Spotify. DistroKid will pay you for the streams that you get on Spotify. In order for you to take the next step to start making more money and selling your music on Spotify is to get on Spotify playlists. This is a time consuming task but once you land on a Spotify playlist you'll start selling your music and making recurring monthly revenue. Watch the video and I'll explain how.

Thanks for the info, Carles!

Could you please tell me if we also need a publisher? What is their role in this? Are publishers necessary at all if you want to sell your music on Spotify or any other platform nowadays?

You mentioned having a choice between regular fees and a commission only, but which one does that? I don't want any regular fees, because I have only one upload, one tape.

Thanks Charles! So, you don't sell MP3s for download on Spotify, just streams of your song?

Don't understand why you need a "middle man." Why doesn't Spotify just upload your file directly and pay royalties on it, no need for a middle man to take another cut?

What are the free distributors? Which one is the best site/venue for original (self-produced) comedy tapes?

Hey just wanted to ask...as the distributor distributes our music on every single streaming platform...is it mandatory to have an account on every streaming platform...or the distributor creates one for us??

I have a Co-Producer. Co-writer who worked with me on 'Lyrics' and I added the 'Instruments needed and where in the song'. Since we are 'Partners' do I need him to give me CONTRACT IN WRITING to add 'Our Music-Songs' to Spotify?? And how do we each get paid? We have TWO (2) amazing songs. I am serious. Because we have 43 terrible ones. lol TWO ARE GREAT. I need to be very careful. Last, 'can these songs be stolen by Major Artists? Others? Are we protected? I do have BMI & Copyright with Seal in New York. Thank you, GREAT VIDEOS. Bless you Sir, James

what happens if you do a cover (question 1)? and most important - what if it is a hundreds of year old song that you did a parody of (think sea shanties)? I have a lot of people asking if I put my content on spotify, so this video is helpful. but what do i check off for situation b - and i rewrote the lyrics? I dont want to make money - my goal in life is to make 10$ for my crap music - but trended on wallstreetbets and reddit 2 weeks in a row now with two dif songs - i dont want money so much as i want someone who likes the song to get it so they can listen to it easily. Thanks!
