i am from the Phils and yes, we do ask permission to pass by on certain places. I am even still doing it whenever i go down our cellar ( i am in Europe now ), i would mumble an excuse for i need to do/ or get something in the cellar. I also taught my daughter to respect the unseen spirits in the forests whenever she walk through it. She once commented that i want her to be afraid but i said no, i want her to be "aware & give respect to those invisible to the human eyes".
