Rare winter storm in Greece leaves scores of drivers stuck in their vehicles

Greece shut down non-essential services on Tuesday and called a public holiday as the country battled a rare winter storm that left scores of people trapped in their vehicles.

The army and fire brigade were called in to help rescue people stranded in their vehicles on main thoroughfares in Athens.

People forced to evacuate their vehicles were told to seek shelter at the Athens Airport.

“The situation is hopeless. They should be ashamed for this mess,” one driver said of the situation.

The storm, named Elpida, was forecast to persist into Wednesday.

Greece is going to need some more heavy equipment to clear all that snow. Toronto had that same problem last week.

I think that stranded drivers should find a warm place to stay like a hotel. Then, the Government of Greece could organize a crew to clear up all that snow.

Sorry guys, if there is no climate change issue we have to do something to prevent such crazy weather events, Mother Earth is suffering like hell, we have the duty to give her the love she needs, nobody's out of such shocking situations, if you are not sick and tired of natural disasters l am, we have all the technologies, knowledge skills and tools to prevent extreme weather phenomenon, we must get involved fans, everybody is important mostly mass media giving tips everybody how to save the planet. ..every single nation of the world fans

I make a habit of checking the weather every day/night in winter. Why? watch the video, that's why. If there was forecast for a Tornado, earthquake, hurricane, I don't know maybe a Volcano eruption, would you go to freaking Walmart anyways? I would hope not so stay HOME. The problem here is people aren't prepared to take Snow serious. Seen it in the states last week, Toronto as well, same problem, CHECK THE FORECAST stay home. Think of it this way, whatever job your going to and from, are you really going to make enough money that day to pay for any damages on your vehicle? medical bills? a lifelong injury due to not staying home. You clearly don't think about others safety so think about your own. It's not worth it, stay home. BTW, it's not the Governments fault it snowed.

It will melt. That is what snow does. This is of course "global warming". Israel also had some global warming today. They made snowballs out of it and continued life as usual.
