This was the golden age of boxing. I’m so glad that so much of it has been preserved for all of us to marvel over all these years later. It’s even more enjoyable if you don’t know the results in advance.

Queens NY baby. Lots of great fights took place here. Long Island City and Sunnyside Gardens. Good old days.

Such a trip to see the training footage! Maybe my favorite part. Really makes them human and gives you a kind of peek into their world, like at the measurement announcements when they were clowning around.

Baer has perhaps the most perfect physique I've see for boxing and many other sports - an incredible natural athlete.

Jethro Bodine's dad! Max Baer held the knockout record for many years I believe...remember seeing that in the old Guinness Book of World Records.

audio is not fitting for most of the bout since the speed in the original was way off. so thats why there is no audio

3:09 People can call him an oaf if they want, but he was no dummy…

“He’s not a good fighter, but he’s a real wonderful boxer and a very clever boxer, and he give me… I learned lots of things last night.

And I’m going to fight him again because if I fight him again, I know I can learn lots of things more.”

Shame about the missing rounds but it is great to see it in this format. One has to give it to Carnera, he took cannon shots up and down and never stopped trying.

When I first looked I thought it was Carnera vs Tommy Loughran. Love the story of that fight where Loughran rubbed crap in his hair that stank to upset Carnera and Carnera ended up braking his toes by stepping on them. This must be one of the craziest fights of all time, nice job on the picture, thanks

Please look it up if you doubt me -- Primo Carnera holds the KO record in the heavyweight division. Few come close. If you count light heavyweight bouts Ezzard Charles might edge him out. But in the heavyweight division exclusively from 1928-1946 -- Primo had 103 fights - 89 wins - 72 knockouts - 14 losses (he was only stopped 5 times by TKO, lost 7 times to decision & 2 disqualifications).

During his prime years, Primo was stopped but never knocked out. They list his 5 losses as KO but his record shows it was actually all TKO (technical knockouts), fights that were stopped. He was never out on his feet or counted out on the mat -- because he kept getting up & coming back with both hands loaded. Takes guts.

He also probably had the best naturally cut body in boxing. He was not a weight lifter or a professional bodybuilder. he also had an 85" reach. He just lacked finesse & skills but he had power, determination & stamina. Joe Louis said Primo hit hard with every punch and had a good jab. Despite losing to a far better-skilled boxer in Max Baer, Primo got in many good shots. But he was a bit awkward at times.

By the way, Max Baer lost in 4 rounds to Joe Louis. Primo lasted 6 rounds. A testament to the courage and ability that Primo indeed had but many won't acknowledge.

The way they trained and conditioned their bodys is impressive. The medicine ball and the calisthenics. Wow!

Max Bear was a different fighter after the death of one of his opponents, Frankie Campbell, in 1930. Campbell never regained consciousness after Baer gave him a severe beating in the ring. Max Baer was distraught after Campbell’s death . Max was arrested and even faced manslaughter charges, which were later dropped. After that he became more of a showman and clowned about a lot in the ring . I remember reading that when he beat Primo Carnera in 1934, the ltalian needed hospital treatment . Max would often visit Primo to make sure he was recovering .
