The Creative Process: an Overview

Hello! I am Miss Linnea Lark and I am so excited to be sharing this video on the creative process and how an artist can overcome creative block by understanding and following a clear, defined process. I have been working on this series for about 10 months. It has grown and grown as I have done more and more research about the Creative Process, how creativity works and how we can exercise our minds to become more creative. One day I looked at all the footage and the ideas that I still needed to add to this video and I realized it had became an 8 video series.
I'm a high school Art teacher and I started researching creativity because I have been finding, more and more, that my students are often paralyzed by the fear of a blank page. Sometimes the thought of starting a work of art is so daunting that my students give up before they even truly start. With the rise of the internet, and the availability of art at our fingertips, many of us have become fearful. We see amazing art everywhere and it is easy to forget that those artists we admire most likely struggled and strived for that finished product. We only see the final work, and those hours of turmoil and doubt that the artist went through to get that work of art is veiled from us. We can often get sucked into a mind trap, believing that to be an artist is to make glowing works of art with the first attempt and only with perfection. We find ourselves comparing our work to those fairytale artists.
And so I have embarked on this video voyage to help artists remember that creation is a messy, imperfect and thrilling process. SO ENJOY IT!
