Very informative, especially for the newer Duramax owners. Our 2009 Sierra 3500 is our primary ranch truck. Bought it new, now has 195, 000 trouble-free miles on it. When I took delivery, I put 500 miles on it, then drained all the fluids and filters except for coolant and brakes to flush out any debris left during assembly. Refilled everything and put 5, 000 miles on it and repeated the drain/refill. Another 5, 000 miles and replaced ALL oils with AMSOIL synthetics. I do a full service once a year. Transmission.. engine… fuel filter… differentials, using only AMSOIL synthetics. I get an oil analysis at that time. I never put the truck in gear until warmed up and always add Power Service to the fuel. That’s what works for me. The truck is bone stock. No lift pumps, no aftermarket equipment.

Good rule to follow is oil every 5k, fuel filter & trans filter every 10k. You will lose a small amount of trans fluid with the outer filter, but nothing major. Also don’t forget to hit your grease zerks to save your suspension. Also if you have a L5p, clean your map sensor every oil change to keep it from failing from being clogged with soot. 🤙🏼
