I asked the question about upgrading the RAM to the Apple Rep online and after he asked around he told me it would void the warranty. The additional costs of RAM is pretty significant.

I am capable of doing it but overall view is that if you don't use an authorised apple repair centre it does void you warranty. I think the best route is still to get RAM elsewhere then pay the £30-50 or dollars it probably costs to have that done. Even if it is more then it will still probably save you a few hundred pounds/dollars doing it this way if like me you want 32GB.
