How to Make Datapacks in Minecraft 1.13! | Data Packs | Advanced Tutorial | Data Pack Template

In this video you will learn how to make advanced data packs in Minecraft 1.13! Datapacks are important for all adventure map makers and server admins! They allow players to add "mods" or "plugins" to their worlds in Vanilla Minecraft! In this tutorial, we use the Minecraft Glowing Effect to make all zombies glow. We also make a banned items list, banning TnT and Eggs on our world!

Quick note to anyone using this template and finding, as I did, that it doesn't appear in the list of available datapacks:

The pack.mcmeta file should read *(with the quotation marks)* :

I couldn't get it to work at first, but when I added the quotation marks around "pack", "pack_format" and "description" it started working.

Your mcmeta file is in incorrect format. The keys in the json need to be strings -- in other words, they need quotes around them.

for some reason my save isn't detecting my data pack. I try the /datapack enable command and it says "Unknown data pack"

Help i am making a datapack for 1.14.2 but my tick.json file won't work. There is nothing wrong with the pack.mcmeta file, I fixed that.

Thank you for this. I've been out of the loop of the PC version of Minecraft for a good bit. I was quite overwhelmed with all the things that got added to Minecraft after 1.6.4 as I wasn't able to play any version past the said version for a while due to hardware limitations. Now that I can play the newer versions, this is new to me but I'm glad it's allot more simple than I originally anticipated. I'm definitely going to try my hand at making my own datapacks, using your tutorial as the foundation for them.

Easy and simple to follow tutorial on getting started with this stuff. Previously only did modding using Minecraft Forge and writing Java, going to see the extent of what can be done with datapacks instead. Also be careful with your syntax in your mcdata file. pack, pack-format, and description all need to be in double quotes (" ") or it is not valid json and won't appear.
