Even when I spread apart my 2 cats’ bowls, one scarfs down his food and then goes over to eat the other one’s food. And my second cat steps aside to let him.

I had a family of over 40 feral cats and I just fed them in one long dish. They all ate in a line with minimal problems. Sure sometimes one would come and push another out of the way but that one simply went to another empty space. That was in the beginning. Soon after that the behavior stopped and everyone just ate in peace. I had them all spayed/neutered and so they are all gone now since no reproduction happened... I miss every single one.

Funny! My cats loves to share everything. They share food bowls, wather bowls, litter boxes. Everything. Or maybe we're just very lucky? Hugs from Norway.

I think a lot comes down to the individual cats. When I got my second cat, I made sure to put their food bowls on opposite sides of my apartment (after having done a proper introduction over several days). The result: both cats eat from whichever bowl they want to eat at any given moment, with no repercussions from the other cat. I ended up giving them only one bowl, which they share with no fuss (while one of them eats, the other patiently waits right beside him/her). They also share the same litter box, for much the same reason (initially they had two, but none of them claimed their litter box - I sometimes even see them using it simultaneously! it's big enough to fit both of them). That said, they DO get territorial with my bed and my attention.

What a great idea! Looking forward to future videos. This past year and a half I became a new cat owner after severe cat allergies tapered back. Found your videos on youtube and they were a godsend! Our insecure, formerly feral, six time rehomed, play aggressive one year old cat has blossomed into the sweetest most wonderful cat ever. Patience, love, understanding body language and play aggression, and consistency has been key. I fear that without your videos we would be in a much different situation now. Thank you. Thank you!

I love the, “ya know”, and Jackson’s face at the end after saying he would rather have a private both than a communal table.

I have had 4 cats at one time. I do give them all space, but one of them picks a different spot to stand in when it is feeding time. I know he is telling me where he wants to eat for that meal. He changes up the spot every time! So funny!

I trained my 4 cats to eat together and I had no issue with that, they even share a water bowl, as far as I'm concerned they seem to get along. No issue with food bowls at all.

Haha my cats are weird. They like sharing. I put their bowls out all in different places and they will still try eating happily out of the same bowl. So we also give them a plate to share one meal from.

I have a family of five feral cats and they love eating together, it's a total family time for them like a little pride of mini lions😻 not a single one acts food aggressive because I never "weaned" them artificially by taking them from their mother...i watched her teach them the manners of communal eating. They are all grown up now and always respectful of not only eachother but also our senior cat as well who has no such manners, and you know what? My feral mother cat taught her too😼 in a very quiet and gentle way. Nope humans do not know best 😆

Can you do a detailed video on how to transition a group of cats from free feeding to scheduled pre-measured meals? Before I knew any better I let my cats free feed and they're all family members that grew up together so there's never been a problem. And trying to feed 5 cats that all have different eating habits is a pain!
But... now they are getting older and packing on the pounds quickly and the more I learn the more I feel stupid for letting this happen! But I have no idea where to start!

My fear is even if I do give them their own individual pre-measured amount of food I'm afraid that one's not going to finish and the other is going to steal the others food.
And obviously cats are not like dogs when they eat, they nibble throughout the day and some more than others especially the females versus the males. And even if I separate them they're not going to eat all of their food in one sitting so how do I make sure they eat the right amount every day? So like I said I am just lost on how to make sure they all get the proper amount of food actually ingested everyday!

It would be seriously amazing if you gave any advice at all but a detailed video would help so many people out not just me because I know I'm not the only person in this predicament or boat! Lol

Jackson this was perfect timing as I was sitting here wondering about it. I have 2 cats one masurele one female both spayed/neutered. but I have been feeding them together since ive had them the female is a street rescue. I noticed that you can tell she sits back and waits for him to eat (seperate bowls) then when he leaves she will eat so I was pondering if seperating them would be a good idea and poof turn on the comeputer and there is my answer. thanks so much you the cat man for sure.

Eee! I'm doing the right thing! Blanche is fed on her cat tree, Smudgie behind the living room chair, and Annie gets hers in the bedroom so she can watch cat tv while she eats. Score!
