NASA's Perseverance Rover Captures the Sounds of Mars

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover carries two microphones which are directly recording sounds on the Red Planet, including the Ingenuity helicopter and the rover itself at work. For the very first time, these audio recordings offer a new way to experience the planet.

Earth and Mars have different atmospheres, which affects the way sound is heard. Justin Maki, a scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Nina Lanza, a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, explain some of the notable audio recorded on Mars in this video.

I pressed "Play" tô hear what Mars sounds are. It appears Mars has his own music band and 2 human-like speakers.

Wow those microphones are great they definitely capture and amplify the sound of Nina's voice!

thanks for talking over the simulation part, that really helped me hear what it would sound like

So crazy. It's almost like they think people want to hear people talk and not the sounds of Mars.

They explained the video so well that people actually missed the hearing part everytime ....

Absolutely stunning. Lucky to be alive in these times.

Next time they should have a recorded loop of someone talking via speaker and record the human voice in the Martian atmosphere

It would be nice to hear the sounds of Mars without overly excitable people blathering over the top of it

As a sound engineer (and a space geek/dork/nerd) it super interesting and exciting for me to learn how sound works in other planets.

Почему бы просто не послушать? Надо обязательно поп**деть и всё испортить

Mars sounds bring me to tears every time. Like Nina said, they help me imagine being _on_ Mars and that just thrills me!

I've spent a good amount of time in Fuerteventura, and the surface of Mars look hilariously similar to the barron dessert sections of the island. I'm 22 and the more I watch, the more I start to belive we will find life on mars or travel there in my lifetime. incredibly intersting stuff

Вы выкладываете видео со звуками Марса, а сами болтаете во время воспроизведения этих звуков - плохо так делать.

How cool would it be to be the guy who designed that microphone and suddenly you've gone from designing an obscure commercial microphone to designing part of a Mars rover!

Imagine what music sounds like on mars? They missed a great opportunity to test that

Absolutely wonderful to hear Ginny's blades as she hovers. I'd be fascinated to learn about how your models predicted sound propagation & how it actually did. That'd be a great video!
But please, extend the format if you could. Your current videos are way too short & just leave us hanging...
