"Catalysts are almost like magic," Nobel Laureate chemist Benjamin List told ZME Science during a candid interview on a particularly cold afternoon in Berlin.

"Because they make chemical reactions happen, but they are not being used up while the chemical reaction occurs. And that means like a tool, like a hammer or any other tool, you can repeatedly use it again and again and again, millions of times."

Tune in for this amazing interview where List outlines what excites him about catalysts but also shares his struggles during groundbreaking research.

The interview recorded in November 2023 at the @FallingWallsFoundation Conference in Berlin, Germany.

Worked with catalysts for years. The capabilities they give use are amazing.

Used to do the engineering design on automotive catalytic converters. Folks don’t know how powerful a toolkit catalysts provide us.
