4 x 4, the use of that timber lever is nothing short of amazing. it hardly takes any effort at all. Cheers mate

G'day yanx84. The longer piece on the side is not compulsory. You can lever the post out without it, however it does a good job of locking the lever in place. Good luck with your post removal. Cheers mate

At last, a very intelligent 16 year old! Good on you woodfan5. It's good to see that someone else understands the principles and strength of a long lever. Cheers mate :)

G'day Andrew, normally the post comes out with the concrete. All you need to do add extra bricks at the fulcrum as you get further and further out of the ground. If the post starts to come out and not the concrete, just pull the post back as you lift so that it creates some friction with the concrete. That sometimes works. If not, then you may need to pull out the trusty shovel and dig. Hope that helps. Cheers mate.

Thank you so much for making this video!! I just came across is and it was a game changer! It was so fun and easy to remove two posts I have that are surrounded by concrete and I couldn't dig out. This was amazing!!! Thank you thank you!

This works! Holy crap. All the other videos I watched on this recommended buying a giant car jack. This method costed nothing (except the screw I got stuck in one of the pieces of wood. Thanks so much for this tip.

this is awesome.. do you really need that longer piece of wood though on the side? or can you just use the one piece to prop the lever underneath?

Hi Alex, it's all trial and error. Experiment with the position of the bricks and gradually increase the number of bricks as you get the post further and further out of the ground. Thanks for the question mate and good luck. Cheers. PS. Use the 4 x 2 on its edge. It's much stronger that way.

Thanks CrypticExistence. It really is a great method. As l say in the video, 'with a big enough lever you can lift anything'. Cheers mate

I will definitely have to give this a try tomorrow. I've digging at my hard dirt to try and get around the concrete, which is taking forever. Also using tools to try and break apart the concrete isn't going so well since everything around it is so compact, it doesn't have room to break.

Now, it's been quite a while since I've taken physics, but how close to the post should I place my bricks and how many high do you suggest I stack them? I will most likely be using a 2x4x10 as my lever. Thanks.

I've been going through your vids. This one is great!!!! I need to pull 15 posts to redo my fence. Best post pulling vid on the net. I liked your mobile fire pit too.

this is true, I once raised my whole house using just a length of 4X2 so that my wife could get underneath and check for a water leak.

I agree with your example of leverage. However, my in-ground post has rotted and broke away. So, my problem now is, how do I remove the remaining 3 ft of concrete ?
